The first one deals with the life of Gonzaga in Exu, in the Sertao of Pernambuco, and the social and sonorous environment to which it was connected; His departure for the big city, the conquest of fame, the decline and the cultural legacy he left. The second part studies its music, also approaching the construction of the main subgenres linked to the baião, making a study of the term forró and its various meanings. Following the line of the series Batuque Book, the work comes accompanied by a DVD that has scores that can be downloaded, a workshop with instrumental technical demonstrations, comments and execution of six songs.

The Brazilian Northeast has long been a marginalized region with a complex relationship to national identity. It is often portrayed as impoverished, backward, and rebellious, yet traditional and culturally authentic. Brazil is known for its strong national identity, but national identities do not preclude strong regional identities. In Region Out of Place, Courtney J. Campbell examines how groups within the region have asserted their identity, relevance, and uniqueness through interactions that transcend national borders. From migration to labor mobilization, from wartime dating to beauty pageants, from literacy movements to representations of banditry in film, Campbell explores how the development of regional cultural identity is a modern, internationally embedded conversation that circulated among Brazilians of every social class. Part of a region-based nationalism that reflects the anxiety that conflicting desires for modernity, progress, and cultural authenticity provoked in the twentieth century, this identity was forged by residents who continually stepped out of their expected roles, taking their region’s concerns to an international stage.

Esta é a 2ª edição revista e ampliada do bem-sucedido Dicionário de Onomatopeias e Vocábulos Expressivos, resultado de uma pesquisa prazerosa nas letras da MPB, nas literaturas, poemas e nas histórias em quadrinhos. Esta obra está dividida em três partes: Primeira Parte, Segunda Parte e Adendo. A Primeira Parte reúne os vocábulos gerais que estão registrados nos dicionários convencionais como onomatopeia ou vocábulo expressivo, inclusive os que estão registrados como “prov.” (provavelmente) e “talvez” pelos autores e ainda os vocábulos onomatopaicos registrados como tal por autores de literaturas, livros diversos e letras da MPB. A Segunda Parte reúne os vocábulos que são muito parecidos com a onomatopeia ou com o vocábulo expressivo, mas não estão assinalados como tal nos dicionários convencionais, ou porque são de origem desconhecida ou porque são de origem estrangeira (no caso da onomatopeia, pois o vocábulo expressivo é somente da Língua Portuguesa). O Adendo apresenta vocábulos comuns que não são onomatopeias, entretanto, são usados como tal; e alguns caracteres usados especificamente nos gibis e histórias em quadrinhos.

Como contar a história da música brasileira? A série Álbum propõe partir destas criações que atravessam o tempo e marcam a experiência de diferentes gerações: os discos. Iniciando em 1950 e chegando até hoje, o jornalista e crítico musical Pedro Alexandre Sanches reconta esta história visitando a trajetória de um formato específico de circulação musical: o "long play", ou o popular LP. Este volume 3 de "Álbum: a história da música brasileira por seus discos" traz como subtítulo "Levante feminino, fundo de quintal, new wave tropical e afropop brasileiro" e cobre o período entre 1978 a 1993. Na produção fonográfica, o período recortado é marcado pelo desdobramento da chamada música de protesto, pelo rock das bandas nacionais e adiante, como avanço técnico nos anos 90, pelo aparecimento de uma mídia que substituiria os LPs: os compact discs, ou CDs. Escreve Alexandre Sanches: "Os 'bolachões' de vinil encolheram para 'bolachinhas' metalizadas encaixotadas em plástico, discos compactos de tecnologia digital em que cabem não mais as duas canções dos compactos originais do início do século XX, mas uma fartura composta por 14 ou mais faixas. O ambiente de exuberância obrigou os artistas a criar mais músicas para cada álbum e gerou, no contrafluxo, uma demanda cada vez maior pelos projetos de regravações (Acústico MTV à frente) de sucessos antigos, primeiramente por parte de artistas veteranos que lutavam para se manter relevantes no mercado musical."
