Any life story, whether a written autobiography or an oral testimony, is shaped not only by the reworkings of experience through memory and re-evaluation, but also art. Any communication has to use shared conventions not only of language itself but also the more complex expectations of 'genre': of the forms expected within a given context and type of communication. This collection of essays by internationl academics draws on a wide range of disciplines in the social sciences and the humanities to examine how far the expectations and forms of genre shape different kinds of autobiography and influence what messages they can convey. Educação e trabalho: uma questão de competências é um livro que investiga as múltiplas acepções que o termo "competência" assume no campo da educação profissional, no mundo do trabalho e no currículo escolar. O problema é entender a passagem de trabalhadores mudos a equipes falantes. O trabalho como princípio educativo faz com que se repensem os vínculos entre vida produtiva e cultura, com a constituição histórica do ser humano, sua autonomia e liberdade; sua emancipação. Os currículos por competências constituem-se em elementos de mediação estratégica nas mudanças atitudinais e metodológicas relacionadas com as ações docentes e discentes. A verdadeira formação por competência só se efetivará se ela propiciar o desenvolvimento do espírito de investigação e da capacidade de resolver problemas. Nas novas formas de organização do trabalho que estão sendo desenvolvidas quando as restrições tecnológicas impedem o encurtamento do tempo de fabricação, o homem tenta imitar o avanço da máquina. Como os controles das máquinas agora são desenvolvidos de forma autônoma, deixam de ser "mudos", portanto "falam", comunicam-se por meios de sinais convencionados. Os trabalhadores passam a ser "equipes-falantes", em oposição ao trabalhador individual "sem-fala", típico do taylorismo. A passagem do modelo baseado em conteúdo para o modelo de competências faz com que o foco não seja o ensino, mas a aprendizagem; não seja o conteúdo a ser ensinado, mas a competência a ser construída, em contextualização com a realidade. A transferência do "saber fazer" para o trabalho se dá com a apropriação crescente de sua dimensão pensante e das capacidades cognitivas que envolvem forte e intensamente a subjetividade do operário. Nessa dimensão, o "saber do pensar" é transferido para as máquinas que se tornam inteligentes, reproduzindo parte das atividades a elas transferidas pelo "saber pensar" do trabalho. Como a máquina não pode suprimir a competência do trabalho humano, necessita ela de maior interação entre a subjetividade que trabalha e a nova m&aac ute;quina inteligente.
