Há décadas, buscam-se métodos e práticas educativas adequada a realidade cultural e ao nível de subjetividade dos jovens e adultos. Este estudo busca investigar as práticas pedagógicas utilizadas na EJA, fazendo um apanhado histórico da evolução dessa modalidade de ensino.Quatro escolas públicas sendo duas do Município de Macapá e duas do município de Mazagão , a fim de verificar sua adequação ao contexto dos alunos. Os estudos perpassam a história e o parâmetro legal da Educação de Jovens e Adultos e se fundamentam com Freire em Educação e Mudança (1979) e A experiência do MOVA (1996), Fuck em Alfabetização de Adultos (1994) e Ferreiro em Reflexões sobre alfabetização (2001), que possibilitam um conhecimento teórico da prática pedagógica da referida modalidade. A metodologia adotada inclui revisão de literatura, levantamentos de dados por meios de questionários. Com os resultados desse estudo, foi concluído com bastante significativas, como, por exemplo, o ponto cêntrico do processo de aquisição da leitura e escrita dos educandos das classes de jovens e adultos: ser a utilização do jornal escrito. Portanto, esse estudo contribuirá para um repensar do educador que atua nas classes da Educação de Jovens e Adultos, fazendo-o refletir sobre sua prática pedagógica, para que ajude na formação de cidadãos conscientes de seu papel na sociedade.

"...[I]n the autumn of 1926, on the pretext of an alleged attempt on his life, Mussolini decided to make an end of even the semblance of bourgeois democracy that still survived. All remaining opposition organisations and their publications were banned, and a new, massive series of arrests was launched throughout the country. Among those arrested was Antonio Gramsci. Gramsci was a member of parliament -- but the régime was no longer interested in niceties about parliamentary immunity. He had also, since August 1924, been the general secretary of the Communist Party -- though of course under such political conditions the identity of party officials was kept secret. He was 35 years old. At his trial in 1928, the official prosecutor ended he peroration with the famous demand to the judge: "We must stop this brain working for twenty years!" But, although Gramsci was to be dead long before those twenty years were up, released, his health broken, only in time to die under guard in a clinic rather than in prison, yet for as long as his physique held otu his jailers did not succeed in stopping his brain from working. The product of those years of slow death in prison were the 2,848 pages of handwritten notes which he left to be smuggled out of the clinic and out of Italy after his death, and of which this volume is a selection." -- Pages xvii-xviii of Introduction.

Published in 1888, O Ateneu is a classic of Brazilian literature. It stands as one of the best examples of the Realist/Naturalist mode of fiction flourishing at the time (following the lead of French literature), but the novel’s first-person narration and satirical edge make it a more complex work. These features also distinguish it from the then-popular “school” novel. As the narrator recounts his humiliating experiences as a student, it becomes clear that his school is structured and administered so as to reproduce the class divisions and power structure of the larger society. At the same time, Pompéia maintains the novel’s credibility as a bildungsroman by portraying the narrator’s psychological development. The novel’s conclusion at once suggests both a doomed society and its possible redemption, indicative of a moment of upheaval and transition in Brazilian history.
