La presente publicación tiene por objeto exponer de forma no exhaustiva una serie de puntos de interés a proposito de la obra gruesa. Intencionadamente, no trata de explicar todo lo que parece ser importante para construir hoy, sino que aborda principalmente aquellos temas que se consideran más motivadores, con el fin de promover el desarrollo de una serie de automatismos de autoformación, que han de perdurar toda la vida. Para sensibilizar a joven lector, la mejor estrategia es explicar desde la experiencia lo que se ha vivido y cómo se ha vivido, los engaños y desengaños de una profesión a la que se otorga la misión casi única de construir y reparar edificios. A tal efecto, se han incorporado temas dedicados al conocimiento de nuestras referencias, al análisis con profundidad de los edificios antiguos (mediante recursos científicos actuales), con el fin de extraer experiencias de ellos. Se ha adoptado el esquema tradicional de realizar un recorrido a partirvde los fundamentos y hasta los techos, tratando únicamente los aspectos más relevantes de la obra gruesa. Así mismo, el texto incluye un capítulo sobre la respuesta de la construcción frente a acciones dinámicas, con la intención de introducir a los técnicos de la construcción en un ámbito que normalmente les resulta poco familiar, así como un capítulo dedicado al impacto medioambiental, dada la importancia que este tema ha adquirido recientemente.
