Es cierto que muchos de 'stos, enganados por una ilusion que es facil comprender, o guiados por otros moviles, anunciaban gozosos las con quistas que hacian 'en la catequizacion de los indios; pero tambien es verdad que esas conquistas nunca fueron efec tivas, i que si algunas tribus de indios se sometieron 1 pa recieron abrazar la nueva relijion, 'solo tomaron de ella la parte esterna, sin comprender sus dogmas. Habia un can dor ilimitado en laraspiraeion de los que pensaban civilizar a los indios haci'ndoles leer la Biblia 0 recitar el catecismo.
