Obnubilées par l'inceste et la parricide, les interprétations modernes, Freud en tête, n'ont pas respecté la dimension symbolique de l'histoire d'Oedipe comme métaphore d'un enfermement dans la matrice toute-puissante. Pour comprendre l'enseignement traditionnel caché derrière les apparences, l'auteur révèle la problématique transgénérationnelle omniprésente dans l'oeuvre de Sophocle comme dans la culture de son époque. Il analyse la malédiction familiale héritée par Oedipe à sa naissance comme une aliénation transgénérationnelle qui l'asservit aux histoires non terminées de ses ancêtres et qui l'empêche d'advenir en tant que sujet. Voilà pourquoi Oedipe n'était pas à sa propre place sur le trône de Thèbes, mais à celle de son aïeul Penthée dont le deuil n'avait jamais été fait, ainsi qu'à celle de son père dans le lit de sa mère. De Thèbes à Colone, la crise que traverse ensuite Oedipe correspond au passage obligé qui lui permettra de naître enfin. Cette relecture de l'histoire d'Oedipe montre à quel point l'analyse de Freud s'était conformée aux préjugés modernes, sans tenir compte du glorieux épilogue d'Oedipe à Colone. En décryptant les travers de l'interprétation freudienne, l'auteur nous éclaire sur la nature de certaines problématiques psychologiques modernes et sur leurs rôles dans le développement d'une dette et du malaise dans notre civilisation.

Is it possible that history "overly remembers" some events at the expense of others?
