Salvation Through The Jews written by Léon Bloy and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-01-08 with History categories.

"In these unprecedented times" (ugh) we need a prophet. But prophets are hard to come by in the flesh and blood, unless we unearth one from the modern or post-modern past, from our own graveyards preferably. If fusty, fetid, fecal, and fiery Léon Bloy cannot fit the bill, we donʼt know who can. Salvation Through the Jews picks up where certain apocalyptic, poetic, eschatological, and prophesying chapters in The Desperate Man left some readers panting for more. It was published 6 years after the latter novel, and one can see in it the sprouting sequel of a germ planted in 1886, if not earlier. Léon Bloy was a great artist and a genius. Nobody can deny that. And there is artistry in this book; he uses it deftly to make a compelling point. But like all arguments, one needs to hear the major and minor premises first before arriving at the synthesis or conclusion. This work NEEDS to be read even if one is not a Christian or a Jew because although it is about the Passion and although it is about the so-called "Jewish problem," on another level it is something else, and one can take the Jews and Christians out of the equation altogether, strip them naked, bleach them white, remove their particulars from this book, and replace them rather easily by more modern equivalent cardboard cutouts in the theater of now.

Art And Gentrification In The Changing Neoliberal Landscape written by Tijen Tunalı and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-05-30 with Political Science categories.

Art and Gentrification in the Changing Neoliberal Landscape brings together various disciplinary perspectives and diverse theories on art’s dialectical and evolving relationship with urban regeneration processes. It engages in the accumulated discussions on art’s role in gentrification, yet changes the focus to the growing phenomenon of artistic protests and resistance in the gentrified neighborhoods. Since the 1980s, art and artists’ roles in gentrification have been at the forefront of urban geography research in the subjects of housing, regeneration, displacement and new urban planning. In these accounts the artists have been noted to contribute at all stages of gentrification, from triggering it to eventually being displaced by it themselves. The current presence of art in our neoliberal urban spaces illustrates the constant negotiation between power and resistance. And there is a growing need to recognize art’s shifting and conflicting relationship with gentrification. The chapters presented here share a common thesis that the aesthetic reconfiguration of the neoliberal city does not only allow uneven and exclusionary urban redevelopment strategies but also facilitates the growth of anti-gentrification resistance. The book will be of interest to scholars working in art history, urban cultures, cultural geography and urban studies as well as contemporary art practitioners and policymakers.

Pauline is young and coquettish. She is also happily married to Marc and has a child. Gilles, kind and self-confident, is twenty years older and a recent divorcee. After he watches Pauline one morning, he asks to meet her. In spite of herself, Pauline agrees. Alice Ferney unfolds the next stages of the seduction in forensic detail and with devastating lucidity. As Pauline faces the possibility of an affair, she is thrown into confusion. Is she just feeling flattered because she is desired? Is she indulging in a fantasy version of love? Or could she have truly fallen for a stranger? We also eavesdrop on the lives of the people around Pauline and Gilles, from Pauline's adoring and unsuspecting husband, to Max and Eve's disintegrating marriage, to Penelope and her relationship with a man older than her father, and Laura, who desperately wants a child. Together, their stories make up a complete picture of the changing degrees of love.
