Jan Rohls stellt den Ideenkomplex 'Offenbarung, Vernunft und Religion' an den Anfang seiner Ideengeschichte des Christentums. Er geht zurück in die Antike, in der die christliche Theologie sich als die wahre Philosophie verstand, so dass das Christentum als Manifestation der Vernunft aufgefasst werden konnte. Erst im Mittelalter bildet sich eine deutliche Unterscheidung von Vernunft und Offenbarung aus, an der auch die Reformation festhält. Die Offenbarung setzt danach die Vernunft, die Theologie die Philosophie voraus. Mit der Ablösung des herrschenden Aristotelismus durch neuere philosophische Systeme verschärft sich allerdings in der Aufklärung die Frage nach dem Verhältnis der Offenbarung zur Vernunft. Zugleich wird jetzt das Christentum als Religion im Sinne einer menschlichen Anlage und geschichtlichen Erscheinung begriffen, so dass nun mehr das Verhältnis der Religion zur Vernunft zu einem Problem wird

Behandelt wird ein weites und diverses Themenfeld wie zum Beispiel: das Konzept von Offenbarung in den unterschiedlichen Religionen und in der Geschichte der Philosophie; Kosmologie und außerirdisches Leben; die Zukunft des Lebens auf der Erde; die natürliche Auslese und ihre Rolle in der Evolution; der Ursprung des Lebens oder das Verhältnis zwischen Evolutionstheorie und Religion. Ausgiebig diskutiert wird auch die Frage nach der Ankunft eines Messias oder die von anderen universellen religiösen Reformern. Im Zentrum dieser Analysen steht dabei die Kraft des Heiligen Qur'an (Koran), alle wichtigen Ereignisse der Zukunft, Gegenwart und Vergangenheit, vom Anbeginn des Universums bis zu seinem ultimativen Ende, auf korrekte Weise zu diskutieren. Unterfüttert mit unbestreitbaren logischen und wissenschaftlichen Argumenten scheut der Heilige Qur'an nicht, sich der kritischen Prüfung der Rationalität auszusetzen.
