Old History New Geography written by Jairam Ramesh and has been published by Rupa Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016 with Andhra Pradesh (India) categories.

In November 1956, a unified Telugu-speaking state of Andhra Pradesh came into being. In February 2014, Parliament bifurcated it to create two Telugu-speaking states: Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Old History, New Geography provides the context, text and subtext to the bifurcation, which continues to be contentious and controversial. Jairam Ramesh makes an ideal commentator, given that he was a key member of the group of ministers (GoM) set up by the United Progressive Alliance government in October 2013 to prepare the legislation for the bifurcation. For the next seven months, he became the GoM's prime mover and its public face and was thus always in the crossfire as it strove to balance competing claims and differing demands to ensure a just and equitable outcome. Blending sharp commentary and humour and drawing on his meticulously maintained personal records, parliamentary debates and a variety of thus far undisclosed primary sources, Ramesh recounts this momentous event as it unfolded. He brings to the Andhra bifurcation story the kind of authority and authenticity only an insider can. This singularly important book is a narrative of history told first-hand by someone who was not just a witness to it but one who actually shaped it. Combining an intensely personal account with in-depth scholarship, Old History, New Geography is a must-read not only for academia but, crucially, also for the general reader seeking an understanding of contemporary India.

Geography And History Of New Jersey Classic Reprint written by Albert B. Meredith and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-07-12 with History categories.

Excerpt from Geography and History of New Jersey The geography and history of any state are closely interwoven; New Jersey is no exception. Its coast position between two great cities, the long sandy stretches in the east, and the foothills toward the west and north have all combined to make of the history of this state not only an interesting story which every New Jersey school child should know but also one in which he should take great pride. It is the geographic conditions with which a people have to contend that determine to a great extent what that people shall accomplish. The authors of the present book have endeavored to show clearly and definitely the character of the land which we call New Jersey: how it has fostered farming, fishing, and manufacturing; how it has steadily made for progress; and how it has brought wealth to the inhabitants. New Jersey has been greatly favored and her people have accomplished much. The history of New Jersey began almost with the history of our country, and from the time when the first settlers reached her coast and laid out their small farms and towns there have been no movements in our national history in which the men and women of New Jersey have not done their part. It is presupposed that the children who study this book will be acquiring from other texts a general knowledge of United States history, and so only those events and incidents which are peculiarly a part of the history of the state of New Jersey have been included in this narrative. A brief outline of the civics of New Jersey is included which will furnish a framework of government in this state. From such a beginning the child may develop a wider and more thorough knowledge of local governmental problems.
