La comunicazione digitale da tempo è entrata a fare parte delle nostre vite e ha profondamente modificato il nostro modo di lavorare e di relazionarci con gli altri. Essa ha introdotto profondi cambiamenti anche nelle pratiche professionali legate alla salute e al benessere delle persone, come è avvenuto per esempio per la psicoterapia, dove al tradizionale rapporto viso a viso, o con il lettino, si è affiancato il lavoro clinico a distanza. Di conseguenza, nelle istituzioni psicoanalitiche internazionali si è aperto un dibattito sull’introduzione della tecnologia e della realtà virtuale nella pratica clinica: la psicoterapia online è stata messa a confronto con il trattamento tradizionale per verificarne la sua efficacia e per valutarne la sua applicabilità, senza “tradire” i principi teorici della psicoanalisi. In molti hanno sottolineato le difficoltà che si presentano nel costruire online un setting condiviso, in cui si possa praticare un’analisi del transfert per cogliere i contenuti inconsci della relazione analitica, ma hanno trascurato al contempo di considerare le differenze che esistono tra un metodo e l’altro. Questo libro cerca di fornire un inquadramento teorico della nuova metodica per definire i fattori terapeutici che la caratterizzano e indicare gli accorgimenti tecnici che si rendono necessari per procedere con una psicoterapia mediata dallo schermo.

Il desiderio di essere gli uni uguali agli altri quale espressione del conformismo presente nella nostra società ci suggerisce che, a fianco di percorsi di effettiva resilienza, sia in atto un planetario e spontaneo addomesticamento delle persone alle aspettative della comunità di appartenenza. Si tratta di un’operazione che serve a padroneggiare l’incertezza globale e a contrastare l’orrore che si prova nell’essere senza fondamenti e privi di un’identità rocciosa. Tutto tende a essere omologato a uno standard considerato normale, dove normale sta per “comportamento sociale adottato dalla maggioranza delle persone”. Succede così che, senza che sia stato decretato da nessuno né che ci sia stata una coercizione a condividere idee e stili di vita, modelli di identità sessuale e di genere, si produca una certa omologazione dei singoli individui tra loro e tutti insieme alla norma sociale. Cambiano e si standardizzano persino le forme di linguaggio, come se ci fosse un suggeritore sociale forte a indicare un’unica direzione da seguire, verso cui la maggioranza delle persone si dirige prontamente per sentirsi parte di un gruppo sociale dominante.

C’è qualcosa in noi che si rifiuta di essere catalogato in base alla nosografia psichiatrica dei vari manuali DSM e che non può essere collocato in un quadro psicopatologico. Sotto la lente dello sguardo clinico, la nostra sofferenza viene razionalizzata in una sindrome e così la nostra biografia, la nostra singolare narrazione, non potrà che apparire come la storia di una vittima, di una persona la cui psiche è malata, traumatizzata, che necessita di cure specifiche. Se ci sottraiamo a tale visione patologica e pensiamo alla psiche come “vita”, senza scinderla dalla propria sofferenza ma solo dalla visione malata che abbiamo di noi stessi, allora possiamo costruire immagini per dare un nome al nostro disagio, che spesso resta senza definizione, manifestandosi come perdita di senso e di interesse per la vita. Concependo la condizione psicologica come frutto di eredità arcaiche e di esperienze vissute in epoche più recenti, come un insieme di contenuti inconsci sia individuali che collettivi, ci avventureremmo in un territorio ignoto per incontrare la nostra anima, come vuole l’espressione di Carl G. Jung, ripresa nel pensiero di Erica F. Poli. Potremmo conoscere il nostro daimon, come propone James Hillman, il nostro “geniale compagno di viaggio”, che per Umberto Galimberti rappresenta la nostra vocazione, quello per cui siamo nati. Oppure, ancora, conoscere ciò che siamo e perché lo siamo diventati, la coscienza del proprio “essere nel mondo”, abitati nello psichico da “gruppalità interne” che, secondo Diego Napolitani, caratterizzano la nostra individualità.
