Sibelius written by Andrew Barnett and has been published by Yale University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-01-01 with Music categories.

Informed by a wealth of information that has come to light in recent years, this engaging biography tells the complete story of the life and musical work of Finnish composer Jean Sibelius (1865-1957). Drawing on Sibelius’s own correspondence and diaries, contemporary reviews, and the remarks of family and friends, the book presents a rich account of the events of the musician’s life. In addition, this volume is the first to set every work and performable fragment by Sibelius in its historical and musical context. Filling a significant gap, the biography also provides the first accurate information about much of the composer’s early music. Writing for the general music-lover, Andrew Barnett combines his own extensive knowledge of Sibelius’s music with the insights of other scholars and musicians. He lays to rest a number of myths and untruths—that Sibelius wrote no chamber music of value, for example, and that he stopped composing in 1926 and didn’t need to compose to earn a living. Barnett completes the volume with the most thorough worklist available and an authoritative chronology of Sibelius’s entire output.

The historical Bhagavad -Pyhäkaavat (Bhagavad Gita) is a collection of letters mostly written by Achaemenids ́ vassals dating back to the pre-Roman Iron Age of Northern Europe. Letter writing begins in Greek Anatolia in 480 B.C.E. and continues in North Europe. Ancient Veda texts are astonishing, historical first- hand information about northern kingdoms established by the Achaemenid dynasty. Previously, it was not known that the Persian sphere of influence even extended to the territory of present-day Finland. Cyrus the Great was aptly titled ́King of the Four Corners of the Earth ́. The Achaemenids were a common factor between Vedic India and Vedic North Europe. Their power also extended to Caria and Ionia in Anatolia. These people spoke and wrote in the Carian or Arian language, the language that is called the Finnish Karelian dialect nowadays. The Bhagavad Gita letters also provide valuable information about their ancient Baptist religion. Many of its features were transferred to modern religions.

Lived Nation As The History Of Experiences And Emotions In Finland 1800 2000 written by Ville Kivimäki and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-06-07 with History categories.

This open access book uses Finland in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries as an empirical case in order to study the emergence, shaping and renewal of a nation through histories of experience and emotions. It revolves around the following questions: What kinds of experiences have engendered national mobilization and feelings of national belonging? How have political and societal conflicts turned into new communities of experience and emotion? What kinds of experiences have been integrated into, or excluded from, the national context in different instances? How have people internalized or contested the nation as a context for their personal, family and minority-group experiences? In what ways has the nation entered and affected people’s intimate spheres of life? How have “national” experiences been transmitted to children in the renewal of the nation? This edited collection points to the histories of experience and emotions as a novel way of studying nations and nationalism. Building on current debates in nationalism studies, it offers a theoretical framework for analyzing the historical construction of “lived nations,” and introduces a number of new methodological approaches to understand the experiences of the nation, extending from the investigation of personal reminiscences and music records to the study of dreams and children’s drawings.

On The Legacy Of Lutheranism In Finland written by Kaius Sinnemäki and has been published by BoD - Books on Demand this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-11-19 with History categories.

This volume analyses the societal legacy of Lutheranism in Finland by drawing on a multidisciplinary perspective from the social sciences and humanities. Involving researchers from a wide range of such fields has made it possible to provide fresh and fascinating perspectives on the relationship between Lutheranism and Finnish society. Overall the book argues that Lutheranism and secular Finnish society are deeply intertwined. This volume addresses different societal areas which have been significantly influenced by Lutheranism, but also demonstrate how Lutheranism and its institutions have themselves adapted to society. As part of an ongoing religious turn in humanities and social sciences research in Finland and other countries, this book argues that it is necessary to take religion into greater account to more fully understand current societies and cultures, as well as their futures.

Jean Sibelius written by Glenda Dawn Goss and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-15 with Music categories.

First Published in 1998. This book is a comprehensive annotated bibliography of writings about the life, times, and music of Jean Sibelius (1865-1957). Over 1,000 sources in 11 different languages are represented, from the earliest writings, which appeared in the 1890s, to studies published through 1994. Historical information and background are supplied together with an indication of the reliability of each source. Translations of studies into English, German, and French are noted, particularly important in a field where so many items are in Finnish and Swedish. Introductory essays to each section discuss Sibelius in different contexts: for example, vis--vis his contemporaries in Scandinavia, in relation to folk music, in reception history, and in the scholarly literature. Individual musical compositions have their own sections with bibliography. Comprehensive indexes cover the musical works, authors, and people and subjects mentioned.
