The Nature And Origins Of Japanese Imperialism written by Donald Calman and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-02-01 with History categories.

This important book, which many will regard as controversial, argues convincingly that the Japanese imperialism of the first half of the Twentieth Century was not a temporary aberration. The author looks at the detail of the great crisis of 1873 and shows that the prospect of economic gain through overseas expansion was the central issue of that year's political struggles. He goes on to show that Japan had a long, earlier history of aiming for economic expansion overseas; and that Japan's Twentieth Century imperialism grew out of this. In addition, he argues convincingly that much of the writing about Japan has played down the true extent and nature of Japanese imperialism.

Facing Japan written by Parks M. Coble and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-03-17 with History categories.

In "Facing Japan", Parks M. Coble focuses on how events that took place during the Japanese occupation of Manchuria - from 1931 until war erupted in 1937 - affected the Chinese goverment and public opinion. Both in the places where incidents occurred and in other centres of power, Japanese threats, attacks, and economic demands pressed Nationalist China relentlessly and aroused popular indignation. Throughout most of the period, Chiang kai-Shek was trying to wrest control of China from all domestic rivals. Aware that his army was inferior to Japan's, his Nationalist government repeatedly made concessions in response to Japanese provocations. Chiang busied himself with anti-Communist campaigns, leaving others to take public responsibility for his unpopular appeasement policies. For such crises as the Mukden Incident and the Japanese attack on Shanghai, Coble examines the tension that Chiang's policy caused within the Kuomintang, and the alternatives put forward by other major leaders both inside and outside the government. To further explore the political complexities of the day, Coble traces the actions of regional leaders and their constantly changing relations to the central government in Nanking, reviews editorials of various newspapers, and chronicles the actions of student organizations and patriotic associations.

A Study Of The Strategy And Tactics Of The Russo Japanese War 1904 written by A. Kearsey and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-01-04 with categories.

No more instructive campaign than the Russo-Japanese War of 1904 could be selected for the student of early 20th century military history, as it shows the technological advancements that altered the capacity in which nations waged war after the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71. This is one of a series of studies on campaigns and battles by Lt Col Kearsey, designed to help the student of military history, particularly those studying for Staff College, and for promotional examinations on Military History. The war fought between the Russian Empire and the Empire of Japan over rival imperial ambitions in Manchuria and Korea was important as many of the technological innovations brought on by the Industrial Revolution first became present on the battlefield. Developments of modern armaments, such as rapid-firing artillery and machine guns, as well as more accurate carbine rifles, were first used on a mass scale. This demonstrated that warfare in a new age of technology had undergone a considerable change since the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71. Most army commanders had previously envisioned using these weapon systems to dominate the battlefield on an operational and tactical level but, as events played out, these technological advancements forever altered the capacity in which nations would wage war. The Japanese Colonial Empire 1895 1945 written by Ramon H. Myers and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1984 with History categories.

These essays, by thirteen specialists from Japan and the United States, provide a comprehensive view of the Japanese empire from its establishment in 1895 to its liquidation in 1945. They offer a variety of perspectives on subjects previously neglected by historians: the origin and evolution of the formal empire (which comprised Taiwan, Korea, Karafuto. the Kwantung Leased Territory, and the South Seas Mandated Islands), the institutions and policies by which it was governed, and the economic dynamics that impelled it. Seeking neither to justify the empire nor to condemn it, the contributors place it in the framework of Japanese history and in the context of colonialism as a global phenomenon. Contributors are Ching-chih Chen. Edward I-te Chen, Bruce Cumings, Peter Duus, Lewis H. Gann, Samuel Pao-San Ho, Marius B. Jansen, Mizoguchi Toshiyuki, Ramon H. Myers, Mark R. Peattie, Michael E. Robinson, E. Patricia Tsurumi. Yamada Saburō, Yamamoto Yūzoō.
