The On the Trail adventures continue in book four ... What seemed like a straightforward mission becomes an eerie mystery. All the king had ordered them to do was to follow the old map through the Noble Mountains to ensure its accuracy. It should have been a routine undertaking. But confusion builds as the practitioners of magic Veras, Creda, Xyron, and Giever, with the escort Ferren, Joul, Nico, and Aldred, find themselves in an area with its own unfamiliar and sinister sorcery. As they progress through challenges, Creda realizes that her own powers are changing, and their predicament might even be her fault. Worst of all, they begin to see that this sinister magic might be deliberately hindering their progress . . . and intending them harm. If they can’t find some way of dealing with the constant, continuing dangers from the mystical surroundings, the entire kingdom could be threatened.

Vanishing Trails is the continuation of the story of Daisy McLaren and Jake Smith told in Appalachian Trails: A Smoky Mountain Mystery. It picks them up again during the Fourth of July weekend of the following year. Daisy is living with her small calico cat named Rescue above her father's garage; Jake is living on the family farm. Daisy still believes her mother had been murdered just before Daisy's graduation from UNC-Chapel Hill. A young woman, Keira Swan, returns to Franklin after a long absence, and she has with her an infant. Before she can explain herself, she disappears in the middle of the night. Jake and his hound dog Susie Q track her to a spot down the road where Keira apparently got into a car to vanish. When Daisy visits the trailers that the Swan family call home, she is knocked out and wakes up in her Jeep in front of an abandoned cabin high above the Cullasaja Gorge. When the county sheriff investigates, he finds the skeletal remains of eight persons, none of which could be Keira's. Secure in her belief that Keira might still be alive, Daisy continues her search for Keira and hopes that, by finding Keira, she might also learn why her mother died.

Arizona’s Superstition Mountains are like no other mountain range in the continental United States. The ancestral ground of the western Apache and sacred heights of the neighboring Pima, these mountains were once a veritable no-man’s land of soaring cliffs, dead-end box canyons, and eerie hoodoos of stone, marking them as one of the last places on earth that any person would dare to tread. While this range appears on the surface to be a veritable nature lover’s paradise with towering saguaro cactus forests, desert wildflowers, and roadrunners, it is also home to rattlesnakes, plants and animals that stick, sting, or bite, and modern gun-toting, dry-gulchers. In fact, in the last century, the Superstition Mountains have claimed the lives of more than 500 visitors, marking it as the West’s deadliest wild area. Part hiking guide, part history book, Superstitions: Hiking the Ghost Trails of Mystery Mountain vividly brings the supernatural beauty, mystery, and majesty of this unique area to life.Within the pages of Superstitions, readers will first be swept up in the legends of the Superstition Mountains, encountering colorful historical characters such as 1840s gold prospectors, brave-hearted Apaches, and sly outlaws. Readers will encounter the native flora and fauna of the range, from poisonous rattlesnakes to rare flowers. And finally, an in-depth guide to every trail in the range, will satisfy even the most experienced of hikers.Including a foldout map and dozens of original photos, Superstitions belongs on the shelf, or in the backpack, of every history buff and every veteran hiker.

Getaway With Murder is the first in a cozy series from Diane Kelly set in a lodge in the Blue Ridge Mountains, where secrets hide behind every hill. As if hitting the half-century mark wasn’t enough, Misty Murphy celebrated her landmark birthday by amicably ending her marriage and investing her settlement in a dilapidated mountain lodge at the top of the Blue Ridge Mountains. With the old inn teetering on both a bluff and bankruptcy, she must have lost her ever-loving mind. Luckily, handyman Rocky Crowder has a knack for rehabbing virtual ruins and for doing it on a dime, and to Misty’s delight, the lodge is fully booked on opening night, every room filled with flexible folks who’d slipped into spandex and ascended the peak for a yoga retreat with plans to namastay for a full week. Misty and her guests are feeling zen—at least until the yoga instructor is found dead. With a killer on the loose and the lodge’s reputation hanging in the balance, Misty must put her detective-skills to the test. Only one thing is as clear as a sunny mountain morning—she must solve the crime before the lodge ends up, once again, on the brink.
