The Lonely Christmas Tree is a story about Bruce, a lonely (Spruce) Tree left in the Hotaling's Christmas tree lot on Christmas Eve. Bruce became the saddest Christmas tree around and thought that he would have to spend Christmas alone. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed some movement, maybe one last family shopping for a tree, but no it was just some woodland animals roaming about the Christmas tree lot. Bruce did not think anything of the animals until one of the animals; Hammy the chipmunk, came up to Bruce and asked what was wrong. Bruce told him that he was all alone for Christmas. Hammy then ran off, gathered the rest of his friends, and came back to let Bruce know that he would not be left alone on Christmas. This is when all the animals went on a scavenger hunt to find all the items they could to help decorate Bruce. All returned with great ideas to decorate Bruce; strings of popcorn, cookie ornaments, and left over Christmas lights and even a star. By the time they are finished decorating Bruce, he was the best-looking Christmas Trees in the entire town. Bruce was the happiest tree around and was spending it with some great friends on Christmas.

For some, our media-saturated culture points to the decline of Western civilization; for others, it points to the dawn of a bright future. For Nathan Roberts, the mediated landscape is a place to thoughtfully engage with these tensions. This unique memoir, meditative and philosophical, chronicles Nathan’s absorption in the vital, inspiring, and often maddening power of media and entertainment. With wry self-effacement and raw honesty, he calls us to conceive of media not only as an abstract, postmodern phenomenon, but as a digital architecture that creates real meeting space. Exploring social media, music, film, art, theater, standup comedy, and more, Nathan shows us a world of entertainment that reflects the universal hunger for connection.

When her husband is offered the assignment of U.S. Naval attaché in London in 1939, Lydia Chapin Kirk packs up her family and embarks on a lifelong journey, one in which she becomes a firsthand witness to the extraordinary world events of her time. Kirk's historical memoir offers a fascinating portrait of a remarkable life, told first from the perspective of a young girl in Erie, Pennsylvania, Paris, and Washington before World War I, and then from her husband's postings as U.S. naval attaché and then as U.S. ambassador to Belgium, the Soviet Union, and Taiwan during the cold war. She brings alive the unique challenges and complex managerial and social responsibilities of a diplomat's spouse, especially when facing the perils of looming war, the challenges of Stalin's Moscow, and lengthy separations from her husband and children. An accomplished author of four books published in the 1950s and 1970s, Lydia Kirk captures the places and times in which she lived, the youthful adventures and wartime disruptions. With colorful prose and vivid detail, she offers recollections of such prominent people as President Theodore Roosevelt, Soviet Foreign Minister Gromyko, and Madame Chiang Kai-shek. Kirk has an artist's eye for her surroundings, revealing candid perceptions of human nature. Here is the story of a woman of consequence living through a transitional time when wives' roles were different than they are now. Her memoir gives voice to the many strong women of her generation whose untold contributions will inspire readers of all backgrounds.

A suspenseful, spellbinding novel of love, jealousy, and murder, The Ripper's Wife reimagines the most notorious serial killer in history through the eyes of the woman who sealed his fate. "Love makes sane men mad and can turn a gentle man into a fiend." It begins as a fairytale romance--a shipboard meeting in 1880 between vivacious Southern belle Florence Chandler and handsome English cotton broker James Maybrick. Courtship and a lavish wedding soon follow, and the couple settles into an affluent Liverpool suburb. From the first, their marriage is doomed by lies. Florie, hardly the heiress her scheming mother portrayed, is treated as an outsider by fashionable English society. James's secrets are infinitely darker--he has a mistress, an arsenic addiction, and a vicious temper. But Florie has no inkling of her husband's depravity until she discovers his diary--and in it, a litany of bloody deeds. . .
