Who is the Muse? Why do we need Her? How do we tap into that shining current of inspiration and create something never before seen, something beautiful and terrible, fantastical and infinitely real. The Muse is as vital to our lives today as She was in ancient times. She changes as we change and Her Arts are continually in flux, Arts that we simply cannot live without...or that we wouldn't want to. Among other things, they are tools to make and re-make our world even as we work with Fate to weave the web of life and death, of creation and destruction. Through four faces, four masks of the Muse, this book explores different aspects of inspiration, creativity, and magick. Aphrodite, Cerridwen, Ariadne, and the Lady of the Lake await--each to teach us of the Arts and what we are capable of at our very best. By the poetry, prayer, invocation, and ritual contained within we can come to know the Muse and so know ourselves and the gifts we all have within us that demand recognition and expression. The path of the Muse may not always be an easy or a safe one, but anything worth having is worth paying the price for. Who is the Muse? Who are we? This book is a journey, one that we must dare to take and dare to take hold of what is revealed.. As we must return to the well of memory, the depths of the ocean, and the currents below the earth, there to claim what was ours all along.

“A man chasing the horizon roamed the whole world round to realize he had always been standing on it…” Life is like a ballet in which different experiences take the lead. Sometimes they are graceful while other times they are chaotic. It is easy to get lost but we all still yearn to be found. In the pages of Mirror for My Muse, you will find passion, turmoil, hatred, and hope – all in the attempt for me to find myself... to find clarity before the curtain falls. The world that was in me, I let loose through the verses I penned, and now, it is your turn to take this journey – to let out your zest and gusto as you read each word. But, had words been like a knife – in our hands to sting or save someone – we would have a better world. But no! Words don’t expect consent; they get deep into us to poison or poise our state of being. So, if you choose to read this book, what my words would do to you is not in my hands. I wrote what was in me, and in that, I was sincere. Be what may, I hope what I wrote shall mean the same to you, and if not, let it be yours and yours only. I shall cherish it either way. Adieu!

Voices In A Mask written by Geoffrey Green and has been published by Northwestern University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-09-04 with Fiction categories.

Based on images of disguise in literature, theater, and opera, this short-story cycle explores themes of identity and subterfuge in a fictional fugue that ranges from comic to poignant. Into the librettos of Don Giovanni, Tosca, Rigoletto, and other operas, Green weaves the authentic biographies of their singers and composers, modern-day settings, and his own imaginative twists. Throughout Voices in a Mask, characters obscure and reveal themselves as art mimics life and life, art. Ultimately the very acts of masking and projecting reveal a truth about the power of art and its inherent deceptions.

Greek and Roman mythology is forever linked for a myriad of reasons. Historians believe this could be because many of the Roman deities were adopted from the Greek. However, there are many that were not shared and are proudly only Roman, or only Greek. This comprehensive atlas presents dictionary entries about the major gods, heroes, and imaginary creatures of Greek and Roman mythology, along with information on some key historical figures and philosophical schools of thought. In this impressive book, the entries unfold through a pictorial and illustrated journey. Through a robust glossary, sidebars, and thematic introductions the social studies content of this fascinating subject becomes easily digestible, even for the most reluctant reader, while the further reading section inspires future research.

Speaking Through The Mask written by Norma Claire Moruzzi and has been published by Cornell University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-09-05 with Philosophy categories.

Hannah Arendt was famously resistant to both psychoanalysis and feminism. Nonetheless, psychoanalytic feminist theory can offer a new interpretive strategy for deconstructing her equally famous opposition between the social and the political. Supplementing critical readings of Arendt's most significant texts (including The Human Condition, On Revolution, Rahel Varnhagen, The Origins of Totalitarianism, Eichmann in Jerusalem, and The Life of the Mind) with the insights of contemporary psychoanalytic, feminist, and social theorists, Norma Claire Moruzzi reconstitutes the relationship in Arendt's texts between constructed social identity and political agency. Moruzzi uses Julia Kristeva's writings on abjection to clarify the textual dynamic in Arendt's work that constructs the social as a natural threat; Joan Riviere's and Mary Ann Doane's work on feminine masquerade amplify the theoretical possibilities implicit in Arendt's own discussion of the public, political mask. In a bold interdisciplinary synthesis, Moruzzi develops the social applications of a concept (the mask) Arendt had described as limited to the strictly political realm: a new conception of (political) agency as (social) masquerade, traced through the marginal but emblematic textual figures who themselves enact the politics of social identity.
