Collaboration In The New Life Sciences written by Dr Bart Penders and has been published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-28 with Social Science categories.

In recent years the organisation and practice of collaboration in the life sciences has undergone radical transformations, owing to the advent of big science enterprises, newly developed data gathering and storage technologies, increasing levels of interdisciplinarity, and changing societal expectations for science. Collaboration in the New Life Sciences examines the causes and consequences of changing patterns of scientific collaboration in the life sciences. This book presents an understanding of how and why collaboration in the life sciences is changing and the effects of these changes on scientific knowledge, the work lives and experiences of scientists, social policy and society. Through a series of thematically arranged chapters, it considers the social, technical, and organizational facets of collaboration, addressing not only the rise of new forms of collaboration in the life sciences, but also examining recent developments in two broad research areas: ecology and environment, and the molecular life sciences. With an international team of experts presenting case studies and analyses drawn from the US, UK, Asia and Europe, Collaboration in the New Life Sciences will appeal not only to scholars and students of science and technology studies, but also to those interested in science and social policy, and the sociology of work and organisations.

In this provocative look at the US military from the Persian Gulf War through the 2003 invasion of Iraq, investigative journalist Gary Matsumoto contends that an anthrax vaccine dispensed by the Department of Defense was the cause of Gulf War Syndrome and the origins of a massive cover-up. Matsumoto calls it the worst friendly-fire incident in military history. A skillfully-woven narrative that serves as a warning about this man-made epidemic, Vaccine A is a much needed account of just what went wrong, and why.

And so the story begins. Stories within a story-a blending of traditions, tragedy and tranquility set in the Dubai of yesteryears-the years of pearl-fishing, moonlight bathing and curing of illnesses through Holy Breaths blown upon the sick, and also by branding and blood-letting, and of simplicity and innocence rolled out into a documentary type of a novelette. Facts and more facts spiced up and garnished with fiction.

He was Mummy's favourite. I was the little sister, and his victim. When Vicky was growing up she idolised her big brother David. Their mother worshipped the ground he walked on and as far as she was concerned, David could do no wrong. But then he betrayed little Vicky in the most shocking way imaginable. David began raping his sister. Vicky's happy home life was brutally twisted into a nightmare - he whispered threats into her ear over the kitchen table and she was crippled with fear about what he would do next. Then, at just twelve years old, Vicky discovered she was pregnant with her brother's baby. Vicky was terrified of her brother, and convinced that no one would believe her, so she felt she had no choice - she had to keep the dreadful truth of who was her baby's father a secret. She kept the secret for 18 years, until David had become so evil and dangerous that she knew she had no choice. The truth shattered her family and broke her daughter Kirsty's heart, but Vicky stayed strong and turned the tables on the man that had stolen her childhood. She took David to court where a DNA test proved that he was Kirsty's father and he is now in prison. This is the heartbreaking story of a little girl who has finally found the courage to speak out.

Art And Autoradiography written by Maryan Wynn Ainsworth and has been published by Metropolitan Museum of Art this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1982 with Painting categories.

This book reports the most significant results of a scientific study of thirty-nine paintings in The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The works under investigation are by seventeenth-century Dutch and Flemish artists, mainly Rembrandt and his school. Art and Autoradiography publishes data obtained by the use of a new technique: neutron activation autoradiography. Through this method, it is now possible to study the substructure of paintings, their genesis, and their condition in far greater detail than had been possible with the conventional techniques of X-ray radiography and infrared photography. As a result, an artist's creative process can now be studied very closely. Autoradiography provides significant information for resolving questions about an artist's oeuvre and about workshop variations, attribution, dating, and even doubted authenticity. -- Metropolitan Museum of Art website.
