Die Kohäsionspolitik ist das wesentliche wirtschaftspolitische Instrument der EU zur Förderung der Mitgliedsstaaten. Doch trotz ihrer Bedeutung spielt die europäische Regional- und Strukturpolitik in der öffentlichen und wissenschaftlichen Debatte nur eine geringe Rolle. Die vorliegende Arbeit, ausgezeichnet mit dem Roman-Herzog-Forschungspreis Soziale Marktwirtschaft, schließt diese Lücke. Zentrales Anliegen ist die Frage nach der Wirksamkeit der Kohäsionspolitik, insbesondere in den mittel- und osteuropäischen Transformationsstaaten. Die qualitative Analyse beleuchtet die Struktur sowie Funktionsweise der Förderpolitik und erlaubt eine systematische Aufdeckung möglicher Defizite. Since the financial crisis of 2008, ordoliberalism emerged from relative obscurity to become one of the crucial terms of analysis across a wide range of academic literatures and public discussion. Erich Auerbachs Interesse am Konkreten weitergedacht: Praktiken des Lesens, (post-)globale Weltliteratur, "jüdische Philologie" und Wissen im Exil. Erich Auerbach (1892-1957) gilt als eine der Gründungsfiguren einer Kulturwissenschaft, der es um die Verbindung von Kultur und sozialer Wirklichkeit geht. Dabei berücksichtigt der Romanist stets das philologische Detail: Statt das Allgemeine im Begrifflichen festzustellen, soll es in seiner unterschiedlichen figurativen Dynamik beschrieben und jeweils im konkreten historischen Einzelnen, Körperlich-Materiellen, Alltäglichen aufgesucht werden. Aus diesem "Leib der Zeit" gewinnt Auerbach seine Konzepte wie Mimesis, Figura, Stil und Weltliteratur. Der Sammelband, der aus einer internationalen Tagung anlässlich der Gründung des Erich Auerbach Institute for Advanced Studies in Köln hervorgegangen ist, fragt nach den Konsequenzen dieser Vorsicht gegenüber der fixierenden Abstraktion für die aktuelle Forschung.
