Os Filhos do Interior relata a história do menino nascido no leito de uma família numerosa do oeste paulista que, aos sete anos de idade, começou a fazer suas observações sobre todos os aspectos psicossociais que permeavam seu imaginário. Retrocedendo ao passado em um momento de pura reflexão, para fazer um apanhado dos melhores treze anos de sua vida. Nada obstante aos demais, porém esses representaram uma peculiaridade insólita. Porque ficaram escritos no grande livro da memória, com uma opulência de detalhes que saltam aos olhos do leitor a minuciosidade dos fatos, em uma narrativa poética e debochada, fazendo alusão às traquinagens de crianças, suas lendas, costumes e tradições. Enfatizando o trabalho precoce, de sol a sol, na dureza da lavoura. Especificamente a criação do bicho-da-seda, que seu produto final, recebeu a denominação de “ouro branco”, para coroar a nossa cidade com o título de capital da seda. Por duas décadas dominou a nossa região, mas depois entrou em declínio, provocando o êxodo rural. Nessa época achávamos tudo maravilhoso, exceto as surras que levávamos. Mesmo assim apanhávamos e, minutos depois, estávamos dando motivos para levar outra sova. Os percalços que assolavam o nosso caminho não nos impediam de aprender porque, voltávamos da escola numa caminhada de uma hora, ao meio-dia, debaixo de um sol de fritar os miolos. Nem a dupla jornada que incluía o trabalho de meio período na roça tornava maior o nosso cansaço, servia apenas de aquecimento para um jogo de futebol, no final da tarde. Depois que tomávamos banho e jantávamos, ainda tínhamos as lições de casa por fazer. Só então que cochilávamos em cima dos cadernos, queimando nossos cabelos na lamparina de querosene. Mas, definitivamente aos meus olhos, o que fez a diferença foi o espírito desbravador de meu pai, que tinha o habito de rezar todos os dias na hora das refeições, estendendo suas mãos por cima de nossas cabeças abençoando a todos, potencializando nossa luz interior, provendo o essencial e nesse contexto fomos agraciados.

Interiors and Narrative shows how crucial interiors are for our understanding of the nature of narrative. A growing cultural fascination with interior dwelling so prevalent in the late nineteenth century parallels an intensification of the rhetorical function interior architecture plays in the development of fiction. The existential dimension of dwelling becomes so intimately tied to the novelistic project that fiction surfaces as a way of inhabiting the world. This study illustrates this through a comparative reading of three realist masterpieces of the Luso-Hispanic nineteenth century: Machado de Assis’s Quincas Borba (1891), Eça de Queirós’s The Maias (1888), and Leopoldo Alas’s La Regenta (1884–1885). The first full-length study to juxtapose the renowned writers, Interiors and Narrative analyzes the authors’ spatial poetics while offering new readings of their work. The book explores the important links between interiors and narrative by explaining how rooms, furnishings, and homes function as metaphors for the writing of the narrative, reflecting on the complex relation between private dwellings and human interiority, and arguing that the interior design of rooms becomes a language that gives furnishings and decorative objects a narrative life of their own. The story of homes and furnishings in these narratives creates a semiotic language that both readers and characters rely on in order to make sense of fiction and reality.

The High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) project is research funded by the United States Air Force, the Navy and the University of Alaska with the official purpose of understanding, simulating and controlling ionospheric processes that could change the operation of communications and surveillance systems. It started in 1993 with a series of experiments over twenty years. It is similar to numerous existing ionospheric heaters around the world, and has a large number of diagnostic instruments with the aim of improving the scientific knowledge of ionospheric dynamics. There is speculation that the HAARP project is a US weapon capable of controlling the climate by causing floods and other catastrophes. In 1999, the European Parliament issued a resolution stating that HAARP was manipulating the environment for military purposes, calling for an assessment of the project by Science and Technology Options Assessment (STOA), the European Union body responsible for studying and assessing new technologies. In 2002, the Russian Parliament presented President Vladimir Putinwith a report signed by 90 deputies from the International Relations and Defence committees, claiming that HAARP was a new geophysical weapon capable of manipulating the earth s lower atmosphere. In May 2014 it was announced by the US Air Force that the project would be terminated. The project was created by US Senator Ted Stevens, when he exercised great control over the US defense budget.
