Des del segle XIX la posició econòmica i social dels propietaris rurals ha patit una intensa reculada. Paral·lelament al retrocés del pes del sector agrari, la que havia estat classe dirigent ha perdut progressivament la seva preeminència i ha vist qüestionada la seva legitimitat social. Naturalment, aquest procés no ha estat exempt de tensions. A Catalunya, el període que s’obre amb la crisi agrària de finals del segle XIX i es clou amb la Guerra Civil n’és un exemple. Com a altres regions europees, els propietaris van intentar recuperar el liderat social per mitjà de l’acció col·lectiva i van impulsar un nou associacionisme basat en la identitat com a grup professional, amb l’objectiu d’erigir-se en representants dels interessos del conjunt del sector agrari. Aquest llibre examina el conjunt d’iniciatives d’organització dels interessos agraris i de mobilització social que van portar a terme els propietaris catalans durant aquest període clau de la nostra història, des de la seva institució més representativa: l’Institut Agrícola Català de Sant Isidre. \n

A iniciativa foi ben doada, pola disposición que todos os participantes amosaron para contribuíren ao que se lles demandaba. E os resultados á vista están, neste volume que será por tempo punto de referencia para a historia da cultura galega, nomeadamente da súa época máis recente.
