Cadernos Do C Rcere Vol 2 written by Antônio Gramsci and has been published by Civilização Brasileira this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-10-20 with Philosophy categories.

Nago Grandma and White Papa is a signal work in Brazilian anthropology and African diaspora studies originally published in Brazil in 1988. This edition makes Beatriz Gois Dantas's historioethnographic study available to an English-speaking audience for the first time. Dantas compares the formation of Yoruba (Nago) religious traditions and ethnic identities in the Brazilian states of Sergipe and Bahia, revealing how they diverged from each other due to their different social and political contexts and needs. By tracking how markers of supposedly "pure" ethnic identity and religious practice differed radically from one place to another, Dantas shows the social construction of identity within a network of class-related demands and alliances. She demonstrates how the shape and meaning of "purity" have been affected by prolonged and complex social and cultural mixing, compromise, and struggle over time. Ethnic identity, as well as social identity in general, is formed in the crucible of political relations between social groups that purposefully mobilize and manipulate cultural markers to define their respective boundaries--a process, Dantas argues, that must be applied to understanding the experience of African-descended people in Brazil.

This authoritative, state-of-the-art reference work builds on its first edition to provide a cutting-edge systematic review of the relationship between race/ethnicity and educational inequality. Studying 25 different national contexts drawn from every inhabited continent on earth and building upon material from the earlier edition, the work analyses educational policies, practices and research on minority students, immigrants and refugees. The editors and contributors explore principal research traditions from countries as diverse as Argentina, China, Norway and South Africa, examining the factors promoting social cohesion as well as considerations regarding the use of international test score data. Seamlessly integrating findings of national reviews, the editors and contributors analyse how national contexts of race/ethnic relations shape the character and content of educational inequalities, and deftly map out new directions for future research in the area. Global in its perspective and definitive in content, this one-stop volume will be an indispensable reference resource for a wide range of academics, students and researchers in the fields of education, sociology, race and ethnicity studies and social policy. This book introduces the life and work of Darcy Ribeiro (1922–1997), one of the foremost exponents of Brazilian/Latin American Social thought in the 20th century. Ribeiro was an anthropologist, indigenist ethnographer, social scientist, and planner and creator of universities and schools and held various political offices. This book examines Ribeiro’s work in conversation with other great names of Latin American critical thought and introduces the contemporary epistemological movement he inspired, ‘Modernity-Coloniality-Decoloniality’. It presents the 12 years of Latin American exile to which he was subjected in the 1960s to 1970s, highlighting the fame he gained as a reformer of universities on the continent. Finally, the book builds two new dialogues unheard of, one with Black Brazilian intellectuals and the other with contemporary post(de) colonial studies. This book will appeal to all those interested in studying global asymmetries, social inequalities, and obstacles to development in Latin America. Scholars and students of Sociology, Social Theory, Anthropology, Latin American Studies, Political History, and Education will find it useful.
