A obra-prima de Lawrence da Arábia. É como tenente do serviço secreto inglês que Lawrence inicia, em 1914, sua carreira militar no Oriente Médio. A identificação com a causa árabe, cultivada quando ainda trabalhava como arqueólogo às margens do rio Eufrates, torna-o peça importante no movimento árabe contra a dominação turca; parte da manobra britânica para vencer a Alemanha, que tinha a Turquia como aliada durante a Primeira Guerra Mundial. Como oficial inglês e grande admirador da cultura árabe, aproxima-se de Faiçal, um dos líderes da revolta. Os conhecimentos do militar inglês sobre a geografia local e o exército turco, somados aos ideais de soberania da nação árabe, logo conquistam Faiçal e fazem de Lawrence general de um exército de 10 mil homens. Grande articulador, ele consegue reverter a ocupação do território árabe, impedindo a retaliação turca. Uma epopéia que só termina com a tomada de Damasco em outubro de 1918. Em 1919 torna-se conselheiro da delegação árabe na Conferência de Paz em Paris, onde vê antigas promessas de reconhecimento da soberania da nação árabe serem desfeitas. A convite de Winston Churchill participa, em 1922, da Conferência de Cairo, como conselheiro para assuntos árabes.
