Computers have now taken over our lives, with countries hacking one another all over the world. The older generation are unable to keep up with the new technology, and I consider myself an old dinosaur and have trouble operating a smartphone or logging onto the internet. In fact, when I arrived in Hawaii twenty years ago, I went into Comp USA and asked the young salesperson where the typewriters were, and he wouldn’t stop laughing. Families are changing, with same-sex marriages, and while parents are both working, the children have no guidance, with drug use common and suicide rates high. Young people don’t respect their elders, and crime and murders are taking place all over our country. Maybe if and when this pandemic is ever under control, this world will return to the basics, but I don’t know.

Determined to return home to his wife and son, Otis must overcome countless treacherous obstacles. Meanwhile, Otis's son, Mac, has nearly reached manhood and has yet to meet his father. Despite rumors of Otis's demise, Mac refuses to believe them and takes it upon himself to find his long-lost father. He organizes a ship and crew led by a wise and magical man named Jinni, who possesses extraordinary powers. The crew consists of sailors who call themselves "Lost Boys," each with unique skills and backstories. The Triumph of Odysseus is part of the highly successful Reading Greek series. It presents the complete Greek text of Books 21 and 22 of Homer's Odyssey, faced with a running vocabulary with notes, and followed at the back of the book by a learning vocabulary. It is modelled on the two existing readers: A World of Heroes (1979) and The Intellectual Revolution (1980), and like them is fully illustrated. It makes an excellent introduction to Homer for those new to him, and provides accessible and confidence-building follow-up reading for others. The book can be used by anyone who has completed Reading Greek or is at an intermediate or advanced stage of ancient Greek, and it is ideal for use with students in the upper forms of schools, at university and in summer schools and weekend courses.

Odysseus survives storm and shipwreck, the cave of the Cyclops and the isle of Circe, the lure of the Sirens' song, and a trip to the Underworld, only to find his most difficult challenge at home, where treacherous suitors seek to steal his kingdom and his loyal wife, Penelope. Homer's epic poem The Odyssey is one of the greatest and most influential literary works ever produced. However, its complex language and dense web of allusions and metaphors can be difficult for some readers to untangle. In The Story of the Odyssey, author Alfred John Church presents a more straightforward rendering of the events related in Homer's version. It's a great introduction to the poem for younger readers or those just starting to get acquainted with ancient Greek literature.
