Examination of the Calcutta University As I have said before, my object has mainly been to provide the students with such a suitable comprehensive treatise on ethics as will aid them considerably in learn ing the long list of subjects defined in the syllabus with out perusing a large number of books within a short 'time and with the aid of the intelligence of the begin ners like themselves. But, yet, I have tried my best to discourage cramming, and with that object in view, I have discussed all the sides of a topic, and thus, have tried to give the students as co mprehensive a view of it as the space of this book permits. For these'reasons I. Have been led to subject the theories of other writers to a critical examination in order to arrive at a view more sound and less dogmatic.
