Esse livro é a impressão da tese de doutorado do autor, onde foi elaborada uma investigação sobre o Plano de Aceleração do Crescimento (PAC) que teve início no segundo mandato de Lula e continuou em uma segunda versão, no governo de Dilma. De acordo com as diretrizes desse plano econômico, o objetivo definido era a promoção do crescimento e o desenvolvimento econômico. Para divulgar as realizações e o andamento das obras, foi criado um site do programa, com a disponibilização de relatórios periódicos. Durante a análise desses relatórios, vários problemas foram encontrados, como a ausência de uma relação com o acompanhamento de todas as obras e os respectivos dados sobre a geração de emprego e renda, ou ainda, das justificativas para os atrasos e sobre os pareceres elaborados pelo Tribunal de Contas da União (TCU). Oficialmente, os dados disponibilizados para a primeira versão remontam ao resultado de 82% de obras realizadas, contudo, não foi possível corroborar com esse resultado.

De 7 de abril de 2018 a 8 de novembro de 2019, o ex-presidente Lula ficou encarcerado na Superintendência da Polícia Federal de Curitiba. Foram 580 dias de cárcere, que marcaram definitivamente o rumo da história pessoal de Lula e também do Brasil: enquanto o país elegia um representante da extrema direita, um acampamento em frente à prisão se formou, organizações nacionais e internacionais lutavam na arena jurídica para reverter as injustas condenações, e milhares de brasileiros e brasileiras se solidarizaram com a situação do ex-presidente, seja por manifestações via internet ou pelo meio de comunicação mais antigo entre nós, as cartas. Durante esse período, aproximadamente 25 mil cartas foram endereçadas a Lula. Um impressionante acervo, ao qual se soma o envio também de objetos variados como livros, revistas sobre futebol, poemas e cordéis, Bíblias, fotografias, desenhos, roupas e cobertores para evitar o frio (alguns tecidos pelas próprias remetentes), bordados e gravuras, estatuetas de divindades de todas as religiões, flores secas e outros materiais decorativos. Em Querido Lula: cartas a um presidente na prisão, é possível ter acesso a 46 missivas selecionadas pelos organizadores, bem como a um cuidadoso caderno de imagens com fotografias das cartas e dos objetos enviados. Diferente de outras obras de estadistas encarcerados, que reúnem parte de sua comunicação com o mundo exterior, as cartas a Lula apresentam a visão daqueles que viram de longe o desenrolar da história. São demonstrações de solidariedade, de amor e esperança ao prisioneiro. Atos de pura doação do interlocutor: "A carta, na esmagadora maioria das vezes, é fruto de um esforço intelectual e artesanal que não mira o abstrato de uma legião de pessoas. Seu foco é um único coração, que precisa não somente daquela informação naquele momento, mas, além disso, precisa daquela manifestação. Uma carta é uma maneira de se fazer presente, diria Foucault. Um gesto simbólico, ilustrando que entre os dois extremos envolvidos, missivista e destinatário, não existe distância, ou ainda que ela pode até existir, mas não é suficiente para separá-los", comenta o artista Emicida no prefácio da obra.

Os problemas do ensino superior no Brasil causaram intensas discussões sobre seu processo de expansão no início do século 21. Nesse período, foram propostas sugestões e soluções para massificar o ensino mediante a participação do setor privado a partir da constante influência dos organismos multilaterais. Essa massificação ? que serviu como estratégia para qualificar a mão de obra brasileira ao mesmo tempo em que o Estado promovia políticas públicas de acesso ao ensino superior, tais como o Programa Universidade para Todos (PROUNI), o Fundo de Financiamento Estudantil (FIES) e o programa de Reestruturação e Expansão das Universidades Federais (REUNI) ? fez com que instituições privadas olhassem para a educação como um setor com uma demanda crescente e lucrativa. Esta obra tem como objetivo apresentar como o setor privado consolidou sua lógica no ensino superior brasileiro nos governos Luiz Inácio Lula (2003-2010) e Dilma Rousseff (2011-2016), abrindo espaço para a formação de grandes conglomerados educacionais por meio das fusões e aquisições das instituições de ensino privadas. The Biography includes a Preface by Cuban Commander Fidel Castro Frei Bettos roles as a revolutionary Christian, popular educator, social movement articulator, and journalist/writer provide insight into the political and religious history not only of Brazil, but of Cuba and former socialist countries of Eastern Europe. His lifepath is one of engagement with the revolutionary struggle against the Brazilian military dictatorship in favor of social transformation. His arrest in 1969 for coordinating the safe departure of political militants from Brazil, and his concern to eliminate hunger and suffering from the poorer classes, were strong credentials as he promoted dialogue between political bodies, the religious establishment and the population at large. Strongly influenced by the propositions of Liberation Theology, a defining thread of its activities was to seek an understanding, an accommodation, between Christianity and socialism. Friar Betto maintained close relations with former Brazilian President Lula da Silva and Fidel Castro and the Cuban revolutionary government, and wrote about how the internal dynamics of the Cuban religious universe could be applied to other countries and to different political circumstances. His writings on socialist countries, especially Paradise Lost, are aimed at promoting understanding on several levels: between the Church and the communists; between the military and politicians; between religious leaders and the people. Frei Bettos biography is an invitation to understand five decades of a personal pursuit of revolutionary ideals through the prism of religious tolerance and the pursuit of socialism. This book analyzes in detail the main social, economic and special transformation of the city of São Paulo. In the last 30 years, São Paulo has become a more heterogeneous and less unequal city. Contrary to some expectations, the recent economic transformations did not produce social polarization, and the localized processes of spaces production (and the plural is increasingly important) are more and more key to define their respective growth patterns, social conditions, forms of housing production, service availability and urban precariousness. In other dimensions, however, inequalities remain present and strong and certain disadvantaged areas have changed little and are still marked by strong social inequalities. The metropolis remains heavily segregated in terms of race and class, in a clear hierarchical structure. The book shows that it is necessary to escape from dual and polarity interpretations. This did not lead to the complete disappearance of a crudely radial and concentric structure (not only due to geographic path dependence), but superposes other elements over it, leading to more complexes and continuous patterns. A general summary of these elements could perhaps be stated as pointing to greater social/spatial heterogeneity, accompanied by smaller, but reconfigured inequalities.
