Chemical Weathering Rates Of Silicate Minerals written by Arthur F. White and has been published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-12-17 with Science categories.

Volume 31 of Reviews in Mineralogy reviews current thinking on the fundamental processes that control chemical weathering of silicates, including the physical chemistry of reactions at mineral surfaces, the role of experimental design in isolating and quantifying these reactions, and the complex roles that water chemistry, hydrology, biology, and climate play in weathering of natural systems. The chapters in this volume are arranged to parallel this order of development from theoretical considerations to experimental studies to characterization of natural systems. Secondly, the book is meant to serve as a reference from which researchers can readily retrieve quantitative weathering rate data for specific minerals under detailed experimental controls or for natural weathering conditions. Toward this objective, the authors were encouraged to tabulate available weathering rate data for their specific topics. Finally this volume serves as a forum in which suggestions and speculations concerning the direction of future weathering research are discussed.

Corrosion And Corrosion Protection Of Wind Power Structures In Marine Environments written by Andreas Momber and has been published by Academic Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-04-06 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Corrosion and Corrosion Protection of Wind Power Structures in Marine Environments: Volume 1: Introduction and Corrosive Loads offers the first comprehensive review on corrosion and corrosion protection of offshore wind power structures. The book provides extensive discussion on corrosion phenomena and types in different marine corrosion zones, including the modeling of corrosion processes and interactions between corrosion and structural stability. The book addresses important design issues, namely materials selection relative to performance in marine environments, corrosion allowance, and constructive design. Active and passive corrosion protection measures are emphasized, with special sections on cathodic corrosion protection and the use of protective coatings. Seawater related issues associated with cathodic protection, such as calcareous deposit formation, hydrogen formation and fouling, are discussed. With respect to protective coatings, the book considers for the first time complete loading scenarios, including corrosive loads, mechanical loads, and special loads, and covers a wide range of coating materials. Problems associated with fouling and bacterial-induced corrosion are extensively reviewed. The book closes with a chapter on recent developments in maintenance strategies, inspection techniques, and repair technologies. The book is of special interest to materials scientists, materials developers, corrosion engineers, maintenance engineers, civil engineers, steel work designers, mechanical engineers, marine engineers. Offshore wind power is an emerging renewable technology and a key factor for a cleaner environment. Offshore wind power structures are situated in a demanding and challenging marine environment. The structures are loaded in a complex way, including mechanical loads and corrosive loads. Corrosion is one of the major limiting factors to the reliability and performance of the technology. Maintenance and repair of corrosion protection systems are particularly laborious and costly. Explores the literature between 1950 and 2020 and contains over 2000 references Offers the most complete monograph on the issue Covers all aspects of corrosion protection in detail, including coatings, cathodic protection, corrosion allowance, and constructive design, as well as maintenance and repair Delivers the most complete review on corrosion of metals in marine/offshore environments Focuses on all aspects of offshore wind power structures, including foundations, towers, internal sections, connection flanges, and transformation platforms

The Physics Of Selenium And Tellurium written by W. Charles Cooper and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-09-11 with Science categories.

The Physics of Selenium and Tellurium contains the proceedings of the International Symposium on the Physics of Selenium and Tellurium held in Montreal, Canada, on October 12-13, 1967 and sponsored by the Selenium-Tellurium Development Association, Inc. The papers explore the physics of selenium and tellurium, with emphasis on band structure, crystal growth and characterization, optical properties, and electrical properties. This book consists of 33 chapters and opens with a review of progress in the physics of selenium and tellurium, particularly with respect to the mechanical and thermal properties of trigonal selenium and tellurium and their lattice dynamics. The following chapters focus on calculations of the band structure of selenium and tellurium; magnetoabsorption in tellurium; trapping levels in hexagonal selenium; and coordination and thermal motion in crystalline selenium and tellurium. Infrared-active lattice vibrations in amorphous selenium and the contribution of lattice vibrations to the optical constants of tellurium are also discussed. This monograph will be a useful resource for physicists.

Fundamental Aspects Of Corrosion Films In Corrosion Science written by B.D. Craig and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1991-01-31 with Science categories.

The purpose of this book is to stimulate thinking among corrosion scientists and engineers to examine corrosion mechanisms and corro sion control from another perspective. While the presence of corro sion films in electrochemical corrosion has been recognized for over a century, the contribution of these films to all facets of corrosion has not been explored to a significant degree. Rather the role of films in certain mechanisms (i.e., stress corrosion cracking) has been empha sized, yet almost ignored for other corrosion mechanisms. This is viewed by the author as solely attributable to the lack of investigation into, and an understanding of, the contribution of films to these mech anisms or forms of attack. The lack of emphasis and study of corrosion films and their contribution to all forms of corrosion attack are probably the result of current university instruction that utilizes two popular corrosion texts (Uhlig and Fontana and Greene) for teaching. These texts provide an excellent understanding at the undergraduate level of corrosion funda mentals; however, the major implicit premise in these texts is that bulk properties of an alloy or metal control the corrosion resistance in a particular environment. For many applications and for a simple under standing of corrosion mechanics, this approach is sufficient. Yet, research on corrosion films indicate these films often have an entirely different composition than the bulk metal (ratio of alloying elements).

Photorefractive Materials written by G. Roosen and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-22 with Science categories.

The papers presented here reflect the core of the scientific activities that took place at the 1994 E-MRS conference. The contributions indicate that the field of photorefractive materials is advancing vigorously, moving into new classes of compounds, finding ways for the judicious tailoring of the microscopic properties of the materials - based on increased insight into the features of defects or quantum wells - and leading to new applications, often made possible by the advances at the forefront of the materials. The many papers presented by European participants emphasised the large amount of work being carried out here. Stimulating contributions also came from the United States and Japan, while papers presented by members from the industrial world indicate the importance of the field in this sector.
