Long Journey Home, is an autobiography beginning in Poland in 1939. This is a little known story of what happened in Poland during Russian occupation as seen through the eyes of a young girl. On June 20, 1941, a ten year-old girl living a quiet country life is suddenly awakened by a knock on the door in the middle of the night. Two Russian soldiers pointing rifles at parents gave orders to be ready to leave at dawn. Their destination was Siberia. One day after their arrest, Germany declared war on Russia and re-conquering the eastern part of Poland, moved swiftly into Russian mainland. Stalin unable to contain them, sought help from Western Allies. An amnesty pact was signed at the Kremlin with General Sikorski for the Polish Government-in-Exile, granting freedom to all Polish prisoners and deportees. It also provided for formation of a Polish volunteer army on Russian soil to be trained and shipped to the Western Front. Anyone having a close relative in that army could leave Russia. The author and her family were the lucky ones. Freed from Russia in August 1942, going through the Caspian Sea to Persia (now Iran), India, Mexico and, ultimately after six years of wanders, landing in the U.S.

This book is the second in a three-part, multi-authored study of Polish American history which aims to present the history of Polish Americans in the United States from the beginning of Polish presence on the continent to the current times, shown against a broad historical background of developments in Poland, the United States and other locations of the Polish Diaspora. According to the 2010 US Census, there are 9.5 million persons who identify themselves as Polish Americans in the United States, making them the eighth largest ethnic group in the country today. Polish Americans, or Polonia for short, has always been one of the largest immigrant and ethnic groups and the largest Slavic group in America. Despite that, common knowledge about its social and political life, culture and economy is still inadequate – in Academia and among the Polish Americans themselves. The book discusses the major themes in Polish American history, such as organizational life and the structure of the community facing subsequent waves of immigration from Poland, its leadership and political involvement in Polish and American affairs, as well as living and working conditions, and the everyday life of families and communities, their culture, ethnic identity and relations with the broadly understood American society, starting from the outbreak of World War 2 in Poland in September, 1939, and ending with the highlights of the 21st-century developments. It depicts Polish Americans’ transition from a ‘minority’ through ‘ethnic’ group to Americans who take pride in their symbolic ethnicity, maintained intentionally and manifested occasionally. This volume will be of great value to students and scholars alike interested in Polish and American History and Social and Cultural History.

Discover the central tenets of the ACIM movement—and how they can work miracles in your life—with this essential guide to the classic spiritual text. In 1976, a mysterious “Inner Voice” called out to Helen Schucman, dictating a system of belief that ultimately became A Course in Miracles. This book, totaling 1,333 pages, went on to sell more than two million copies around the world. Its lessons are meant to be digested one at a time; those who study ACIM do so over years, often struggling to progress through its resonant but difficult-to-comprehend truths. Jon Mundy—who knew the Courses founders and the text from the very beginning—is the ideal guide to the book’s central tenets. Using passages from ACIM, Mundy illuminates its teachings on such subjects as the self, forgiveness, desire, health, money, addiction, and the afterlife. Through his lively storytelling and in-depth knowledge of the Course, readers gain wisdom that might otherwise have taken them a lifetime to grasp.
