"The central works of Barnett Newman's oeuvre - many of which are reproduced here as full-page color plates - are the subject of an analytical study by Armin Zweite. This study not only gives a comprehensive appraisal of Newman's paintings, from his beginnings through his later works - predominantly large-format, monochromatic paintings - but also deals in detail with all of Newman's sculptures - "Here I", "Here II", and "Here III", "Broken Obelisk", "Lace Curtain for Mayor Daley", and "Zim Zum I" and "Zim Zum II"--As well as with Newman's Model for a Synagogue. The book affords a more differentiated insight into Newman's hermetic oeuvre than would ever be possible in separate treatises on individual parts or periods of Newman's work."--Jacket.

A legendary figure in Californian art, Tony DeLap (born 1927) was associated with Los Angeles' 1960s Finish Fetish school (alongside the likes of Craig Kaufman and Larry Bell), and has been a mentor to some of California's most notable artists, including Bruce Nauman, James Turrell and John McCracken, who all studied with him. Where many artists of the Finish Fetish school eschewed the material facture of their works, DeLap has almost always chosen to construct his work himself, meticulously producing freestanding sculptures in aluminum, fiberglass, lacquer, Plexiglas, resin and molded plastics and fabrics. DeLap was included in the two shows that helped to define the Minimalist movement--Primary Structures at the Jewish Museum (1966) and American Sculpture of the Sixties at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (1967)--and his work brilliantly merges the austerity of Minimalism with Op art illusionism. This volume surveys his career to date.

Mark Rothko, a monumental figure in twentieth-century American art and a founder of Abstract Expressionism, is universally known for his huge paintings depicting floating rectangles of glowing colors. Less well known are his works on paper: he held onto most of these, and they were unavailable and largely unknown during his lifetime and during the long years of litigation that followed his death. Now the finest of them can at last be seen. Mark Rothko: Works on Paper presents the intimate legacy of a giant of modern art. As author Bonnie Clearwater writes,"With the symmetry, tidy execution, and minimal gesture, the small works on paper often seem to be more quintessential Rothko than many of his canvases. They should be appreciated for their subtlety, their directness, and what they disclose about the artists aesthetic." AUTHOR: Bonnie Clearwater, is the former curator of the Mark Rothko Foundation. Dore Ashton is a noted art historian and critic. SELLING POINTS: Includes 86 drawings and sketches reproduced in full color dating from the late 1920s through 1969 Two gatefolds nearly three feet wide make it possible to view studies of Rothko's work, many of them reproduced in their actual sizes 98 colour & 26 b/w illustrations

Carle is one of the most beloved illustrators of children's books. This retrospective is more than just an appreciation of his art, however. The book also contains an insightful autobiography illustrated with personal photographs, an anecdotal essay by his longtime editor, a photographic essay on how Carle creates his collages, and writings by Carle and his colleagues. Still, it is the artwork in the oversize volume that seizes the imagination. More than 60 of his full-color collage pictures are handsomely reproduced and serve as a statement of Carle's impressive talent. - Booklist

Cy Twombly written by Simon Schama and has been published by Schirmer/Mosel this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with Art categories.

Aggressively elegant, viscerally beautiful, Cy Twombly's work is, in the words of exhibition curator and contributing writer Julie Sylvester, "fundamentally subjective, truthful, and uncompromising." His work finds its most personal expression in his intimately sized drawings and paintings on paper. Finding inspiration as much in the forces of nature as in ancient epics and legends, and using the simplest of media--pencils, ballpoint pens, crayons, wall paint--he creates poetic and archaic worlds, usually in series and often as collages. The 84 drawings in this retrospective, organized by the State Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg, in 2003 to mark Twombly's 75th birthday, were collected from the artist's studio, and many had not been previously exhibited. Dating between 1953 and 2002, the works embrace the entire career of one of the most important American artists alive today, from the early monotypes to the major mythological cycles of later years, revealing the many nuances of his aesthetic approach. This revised and expanded edition of the catalogue, created on the occasion of the presentation of Cy Twombly: Fifty Years of Works on Paper at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, includes an essay by Simon Schama, as well as a new text by curator Julie Sylvester. Roland Barthes's classic 1976 essay Non Multa Sed Multum: and a foreword by the Whitney's director, Adam D. Weinberg. Comprehensive biographical notes and a selected exhibition history and bibliography have also been added to this edition. -- Amazon.com.

A critical review of Peter Gourfain's career and his politically charged art. Though he showed minimalist sculpture in the 1960s, since the 1980s his work - in terracotta reliefs, cast bronzes, woodcarvings, prints and paintings - has become figurative, expressionist, personal and socially engaged.
