Life Anew written by Barbara A. Bozak and has been published by Gregorian & Biblical Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1991 with Religion categories.

This book is a study of the hebrew text of Jer 30-31 using techniques of poetic analysis and having as an underlying focus the question of exegetical method. It examines the text in terms of its diction, prosody, syntax and imagery with a view to understanding the unit in its historical and literary contexts, and presents Jer 30-31 as a literary whole in which every element works together to communicate a single message: the promise of a new future, gratuitous gift of god. The careful literary analysis of this poetic cycle demonstrates that while the concept of salvation is the essential focus of the little book of consolation (Jer 30-31), the ideas of suffering and punishment are also highly developed and found throughout the whole. The book concludes with a brief consideration of the extraordinary use of the feminine image in Jer 30-31 and offers some hypotheses for its presence. in its use of literary poetic analysis this work moves beyond the questions of diachronic studies and thus implies that synchronic reading, with its focus on the final text as the ultimate bearer of meaning, is a valid exegetical method.

Ethnocriticism written by Arnold Krupat and has been published by Univ of California Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-11-10 with Social Science categories.

Ethnocriticism moves cultural critique to the boundaries that exist between cultures. The boundary traversed in Krupat's dexterous new book is the contested line between native and mainstream American literatures and cultures. For over a century the discourses of ethnography, history, and literature have sought to represent the Indian in America. Krupat considers all these discourses and the ways in which Indians have attempted to "write back," producing an oppositional—or at least a parallel—discourse. This title is part of UC Press's Voices Revived program, which commemorates University of California Press’s mission to seek out and cultivate the brightest minds and give them voice, reach, and impact. Drawing on a backlist dating to 1893, Voices Revived makes high-quality, peer-reviewed scholarship accessible once again using print-on-demand technology. This title was originally published in 1992.

From The Observatory written by Julio Cortázar and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with Astronomical observatories categories.

"Perhaps Cortaaazar's most unconventional work, From the Observatory moves from descriptions of the life cycle of the Atlantic eel to glimpses of the unearthly structures of an observatory built in Jaipur by an 18th-century Indian prince. This architectural wonder is not merely a place dedicated to astronomical observation but also a space that bears witness to the dreams of those who enter it. Cortaaazar's haunting photos of this enigmatic creation flow into other images--streets, oceans, night skies--which then flow into his verbal dance with a dream-logic all its own. Like fish unaware of why they are migrating, readers will be pulled into this fantastic current."--P. [2] of cover.

Orientalism written by Edward W. Said and has been published by Vintage this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-10-01 with Social Science categories.

More than three decades after its first publication, Edward Said's groundbreaking critique of the West's historical, cultural, and political perceptions of the East has become a modern classic. In this wide-ranging, intellectually vigorous study, Said traces the origins of "orientalism" to the centuries-long period during which Europe dominated the Middle and Near East and, from its position of power, defined "the orient" simply as "other than" the occident. This entrenched view continues to dominate western ideas and, because it does not allow the East to represent itself, prevents true understanding. Essential, and still eye-opening, Orientalism remains one of the most important books written about our divided world.

Key Concepts In Feminist Theory And Research written by Christina Hughes and has been published by SAGE this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-09-12 with Social Science categories.

This original and engaging text explores the core concepts in feminist theory. This up-to-date text addresses the implications of postmodernism and post-structuralism for feminist theorizing. It identifies the challenges of this through the development of ′conceptual literacy′. Introducing conceptual literacy as a pedagogic task, this text facilitates students′ understanding of, for example: - The range and lack of fixity of conceptualizations and meanings of key terms; - The significance of theoretical framework for conceptualization of key terms; - The changing nature of language and the reframing of key terms in research (eg the recent shift from equality to social justice); The text explores these issues through six key concepts in feminist theorizing: equality; difference; choice; care; time; and experience. Each chapter considers the varied ways in which these terms have been conceptualised and the feminist debates about these concepts. Each chapter includes case studies to illustrate the application of these concepts in feminist empirical research, and provides a guide to further reading. This text will be an invaluable tool for students taking courses in feminist theory and research methods, and students across the social sciences who are taking courses concerned with issues of gender.

The Craft Of Sociology written by Pierre Bourdieu and has been published by Walter de Gruyter this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1991 with Philosophy categories.

The work of the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu has emerged, over the last two decades, as one of the most substantial and innovative bodies of theory and research in contemporary social science. The Craft of Sociology, both a textbook and an original contribution to epistemology in social science, focuses on a basic problem of sociological research: the necessity of an epistemological break with the preconstructed objects social practice offers to the researcher. Pierre Bourdieu and his co-authors argue in the epistemological tradition of scholars like Bachelard, Canguilhem, Koyre, a tradition that identifies the construction of the object as being the fundamental scientific act. Their way of discussing the issue makes it accessible not only to academics and experts of epistemology, but also to advanced students of social science, using for illustration a wide range of texts from the various social sciences as well as from philosophy of science. The book includes an interview with Pierre Bourdieu and an introduction by the editor to his sociological methodology.
