Esto lo denunció Belisario Domínguez en uno de sus célebres discursos. Sin embargo, en la tierra natal del prócer chiapaneco la instrucción no pudo cumplirse dada la precaria situación económica y gracias a la política conciliadora que ejerció el gobernador Palafox, quien fue bien recibido en la capital. La situación en el estado, ante la usurpación de Victoriano Huerta, fue de relativa calma, salvo los levantamientos en Pichucalco y en el Soconusco, y la protesta de Comitán ante el asesinato de uno de sus hijos más preclaros. No obstante, estos sucesos no pusieron en peligro la gubernatura de Palafox, quien había demostrado su capacidad administrativa, su disposición por la paz y su gusto por la cultura, aspectos que le permitieron adaptarse rápidamente a la sociedad tuxtleca, la cual lo acogió al grado de nombrarlo presidente de la Junta de Festejos de la Feria de Guadalupe. El hijo del gobernador resultó también ser un hombre culto, aficionado a la música y a la interpretación, como lo narra la crónica de Fernando Castañón: “El joven Ricardo R. Palafox, a pesar de la afección gripal que ayer lo sorprendió, cantó soberbiamente El encanto de un vals, con acompañamiento de piano por el director de la orquesta [David Gómez hijo]”.** Al mismo gobernador la marimba le dedicó, fuera del programa, el two-step titulado “El general Palafox en Chiapas”. Sin duda todo influyó para que, en un ambiente propicio, el gobernador aprovechara la oportunidad de incluir dentro de las festividades de la guadalupana un concurso de composición, tanto de la letra como de la música, de un himno dedicado al estado de Chiapas. Bernardo Palafox gobernó Chiapas sólo unos meses; con la renuncia de Victoriano Huerta, el 15 de julio de 1914, también renunció. A los dos meses las tropas carrancistas llegan a Chiapas y se inicia la lucha armada que duraría seis años, durante los cuales el himno fue olvidado. El recuerdo de Victoriano Huerta es uno de los más funestos de nuestra historia, no así el de su emisario en Chiapas. Al general Bernardo A. Z. Palafox se le recuerda como un promotor de la paz entre los chiapanecos y como el impulsor del concurso de la letra y música del Himno a Chiapas. MARCO A. OROZCO ZUARTH
