Aksesibilitas yang tinggi dan morfologi daerah pesisir menjadi faktor-faktor penunjang pesatnya perkembangan dan kebudayaan di daerah pesisir. Pusat-pusat hubungan perdagangan dapat diakses lebih mudah antarnegara untuk menjalin kerja sama juga menjadi pendukung utama pesatnya kebudayaan dan perkembangan kota di pesisir. Akan tetapi, tingginya potensi dan sumberdaya di daerah pesisir juga menyimpan ancaman. Ancaman ini dapat berasal dari proses-proses fisik yang terjadi dari daratan dan proses-proses yang terjadi dari lautan seperti banjir, badai tsunami, gempa bumi, dan lain-lain. Buku ini menggambarkan salah satu ancaman yang terjadi di daerah pesisir seperti banjir genang pasang air laut atau banjir pesisir. Lokasi yang dikaji adalah kawasan pesisir Semarang. Bagian awal bab menjelaskan mengenai kondisi geografi pesisir semarang kemudian dilanjutkan dengan pemaparan terjadinya penurunan tanah dan banjir pesisir. Dampak yang terjadi akibat banjir pesisir juga dibahas pada bab berikutnya meliputi dampak terhadap kesehatan, penggunaan lahan, dan ekosistem. Bagian berikutnya merupakan penjelasan pengurangan risiko dampak banjir pesisir di Semarang dengan berbagai adaptasi yang telah dilakukan oleh masyarakat di daerah pesisir serta pengelolaan banjir pesisir di Semarang
