Fire brigades, the Panzer Divisions 1943-1945 relates the full story of the Panzer Divisions from the turn of the tide against the Germans in 1943 to the bitter end in 1945. The author has compiled an unprecedented amount of detail on the 46 divisions designated or equipped as Panzer. All the active divisions from mid-1943 onwards, from the well known to the obscure, are comprehensively described -- Army, SS and Luftwaffe. The topics covered are; combat history, organization of the various formations and units within the division, monthly deliveries of armor, monthly condition reports and attachments to higher formations. There is also a comprehensive, in-depth analysis of the development of the Panzer divsions and how their structure and role changed as the war situation deteriorated. The figures quoted are not those for a theoretical order of battle; these are the actual figures of troop and vehicle strengths, casualties, replacements, etc. This book is the definitive work on the subject and is an absolutely indispensible reference for the armored warfare enthusiast, military historian, wargamer and World War 2 researcher.

This WWII pictorial history offers a fully illustrated and informative look at Nazi Germany’s fearsome heavy tanks with rare wartime photos. With its authoritative text, detailed captions, and rare images, this volume chronicles the last desperate years of the Wehrmacht Panzerwaffe. Despite a worsening strategic situation both on the Eastern Front and in the West, Hitlers Panzers and their highly motivated crews showed superior tactical abilities and killing power—yet these armored battalions were not enough to alter the course of the war as the Allies closed in on Berlin. This superb book covers many variants to the Heavy Panzer, some well-known and others less so—including modified, up-armored and up-gunned tanks. Copious images of Tigers 1 and 11, Panzerjager, Panthers, Panzer 4s, StuG IV and III, Wespes, Hummels are provided as well as other fine examples of German engineering.

The author of Case White offers an extensive history of German and Soviet armored warfare toward the end of World War II. By 1943, after the catastrophic German defeat at Stalingrad, the Wehrmacht’s panzer armies gradually lost the initiative on the Eastern Front. The tide of the war had turned. Their combined arms technique, which had swept Soviet forces before it during 1941 and 1942, had lost its edge. Thereafter the war on the Eastern Front was dominated by tank-led offensives and, as Robert Forczyk shows, the Red Army’s mechanized forces gained the upper hand, delivering a sequence of powerful blows that shattered one German defensive line after another. His incisive study offers fresh insight into how the two most powerful mechanized armies of the Second World War developed their tank tactics and weaponry during this period of growing Soviet dominance. He uses German, Russian, and English sources to provide the first comprehensive overview and analysis of armored warfare from the German and Soviet perspectives. This major study of the greatest tank war in history is compelling reading.

Tomb Of The Panzerwaffe written by Aleksei Isaev and has been published by Helion this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-05 with History categories.

In March 1945 the German Wehrmacht undertook its final attempt to change the course of the war by launching a counteroffensive in the area of Lake Balaton, Hungary. Here, the best panzer forces of the Third Reich and the elite of the Panzerwaffe were assembled - the panzer divisions SS Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler, Das Reich, Totenkopf, Wiking and others, staffed by ardent believers in Nazism and armed with the most up-to-date combat equipment, including up to 900 tanks and self-propelled guns. At the time, this was considered a secondary axis for the Red Army, and thus the troops of the 3rd Ukrainian Front had to stop the German counteroffensive with their own forces and could not count upon reinforcements from the Stavka Reserve, which were needed for the decisive storming of Berlin. Relying upon their combat skill and rich combat experience, the Soviet troops carried out this task with honor, stopping the tidal wave of German armor and inflicting a decisive defeat and enormous, irreplaceable losses upon the enemy. The defeat of the Sixth SS Panzer Army became a genuine catastrophe for Germany, and Balaton became the tomb of the Panzerwaffe. In this book, penned by two leading Russian military historians, this major defeat suffered by the Wehrmacht has been described and analyzed for the first time using data from both Soviet and German archives. It focuses not only on Operation Spring Awakening, but also describes the preceding Konrad offensives conducted by the Germans in the effort to come to the aid of the encircled and desperate German and fascist Hungarian defenders of Budapest. This edition is lavishly illustrated with over a hundred rare photographs of destroyed or disabled German armor taken shortly after the battle by a Soviet inspection team, besides other photographs and specially commissioned color maps.
