The book on The General Theory of Electrical Machines, by B. Adkins, which was published in 1957, has been well received, as a manual containing the theories on which practical methods of calculating machine performance can be based, and as a text-book for advanced students. Since 1957, many important developments have taken place in the practical application of electrical machine theory. The most important single factor in the development has been the increasing availability of the digital computer, which was only beginning to be used in the solution of machine and power system problems in 1957. Since most of the recent development, particularly that with which the authors have been concerned, has related to a. c. machines, the present book, which is in other respects an up-to-date version of the earlier book, deals primarily with a. c. machines. The second chapter on the primitive machine does deal to some extent with the d. c. machine, because the cross-field d. c. generator servesas an introduction to the two-axis theory and can be used to provide a simple explanation of some of the mathematical methods. The equations also apply directly to a. c. commutator machines. The use of the word 'general' in the title has been criticized. It was never intended to imply that the treatment was comprehen sive in the sense that every possible type of machine and problem was dealt with.

"In the second half of the twentieth century, Reiki went from an obscure therapy practiced by a few thousand Japanese and Japanese Americans to a global phenomenon. By the early twenty-first century, people in nearly every corner of the world have undergone the initiations that authorize them to channel a cosmic energy--known as Reiki--to heal body, mind, and spirit. They lay hands on themselves and others, use secret symbols and incantations to send Reiki to distant recipients, and strive to follow five precepts to cultivate their spiritual growth. Reiki's international rise and development is due to the work of Hawayo Takata (1900-1980), a Hawai°i-born Japanese American woman who brought Reiki out of Japan and adapted it for thousands of students in Hawai°i and North America, shaping interconnections across the North Pacific region as well as cultural transformations over the transwar period spanning World War II. This open access book can be divided into three parts. In part 1, three articles are employed to introduce the RACFM technology. In part 2, two articles are introduced to explain the Multifrequency ACFM. In part 3, three articles are introduced to explain the visualization research in ACFM. With the development of ACFM detection technology, traditional single excitation frequency and single direction excitation structures cannot meet the requirements of multiple types of defect detection (such as cracks at different angles, and buried defects). New types of excitation structures and methods have been proposed, mainly including rotating electromagnetic field detection, multi-frequency detection, and defects visual algorithm. The changes in the excitation structure and signal mentioned above have expanded the scope of application of ACFM detection and provided opportunities for the cross-integration and innovation of ACFM detection technology with other advanced detection methods. This book mainly focuses on the study of the rotating alternating current field measurement (RACFM), the multifrequency ACFM, and the visualization method in ACFM.
