Rapakivi Granites and Related Rocks tells the story of Rapakivi granites, which are a group of granitic rocks characterized by specific texture (presence of plagioclase-mantled ovoidal to subhedral alkali feldspar megacrysts, two generations of quartz and feldspars) and A-type geochemical composition. Well-known representatives are the Proterozoic rapakivi granites that are found as anorogenic or post-orogenic batholith- to stock-sized intrusive complexes in the Precambrian cratons of Ukraine, Fennoscandia, South Greenland, Canada, United States, Brazil, Venezuela, and Siberia. The current knowledge of the rapakivi granites is largely based on the achievements of three International Geological Correlation Programme projects: IGCP-315 (Rapakivi Granites and Related Rocks) in in 1991-1996, IGCP-426 (Granite Systems and Proterozoic Lithospheric Processes) in 1998-2002, and IGCP-510 (A-type Granites and Related Rocks Through Time) in 2005-2009. After these projects, the research has continued actively utilizing enhanced geochemical methods, in situ geochemistry in particular. Rapakivi Granites and Related Rocks includes this research as well as abundant new geochemical and isotopic data combined with deeper understanding of geotectonic processes now allow more detailed tectonic and petrological modelling of the rapakivi granite magmatism and associated ore mineralization.

Global Geodetic Observing System written by Hans-Peter Plag and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-07-25 with Science categories.

The Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) has been established by the Int- national Association of Geodesy (IAG) in order to integrate the three fundamental areas of geodesy, so as to monitor geodetic parameters and their temporal varia- ?9 tions, in a global reference frame with a target relative accuracy of 10 or b- ter. These areas, often called ‘pillars’, deal with the determination and evolution of (a) the Earth’s geometry (topography, bathymetry, ice surface, sea level), (b) the Earth’s rotation and orientation (polar motion, rotation rate, nutation, etc. ), and (c) the Earth’s gravity eld (gravity, geoid). Therefore, Earth Observation on a global scale is at the heart of GGOS’s activities, which contributes to Global Change - search through the monitoring, as well as the modeling, of dynamic Earth processes such as, for example, mass and angular momentum exchanges, mass transport and ocean circulation, and changes in sea, land and ice surfaces. To achieve such an - bitious goal, GGOS relies on an integrated network of current and future terrestrial, airborne and satellite systems and technologies. These include: various positioning, navigation, remote sensing and dedicated gravity and altimetry satellite missions; global ground networks of VLBI, SLR, DORIS, GNSS and absolute and relative gravity stations; and airborne gravity, mapping and remote sensing systems.

Global Continental Changes written by Julia Branson and has been published by Geological Society of London this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996 with Science categories.

Palaeohydrology is the study of changes in the waters of the Earth prior to continuous monitoring. Knowledge of these changes is important for the understanding of past and present environmental changes and of the form of the present-day environment. The evolution of the hydrological cycle in response to climatic change produces a chain of environmental and human consequences -- factors that are becoming more relevant as climate change is predicted. Evidence of past environmental changes may be used to validate models with which to predict future change -- thus the study of rates, mechanisms and processes of Late Quaternary hydrological changes is of critical importance. This volume is designed for all who are interested in the hydrological impacts of climatic change and the contribution that palaeohydrology can make to the study of these changes.

Mathematical Geosciences written by Joseph L. Awange and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-01-29 with Science categories.

This book showcases powerful new hybrid methods that combine numerical and symbolic algorithms. Hybrid algorithm research is currently one of the most promising directions in the context of geosciences mathematics and computer mathematics in general. One important topic addressed here with a broad range of applications is the solution of multivariate polynomial systems by means of resultants and Groebner bases. But that’s barely the beginning, as the authors proceed to discuss genetic algorithms, integer programming, symbolic regression, parallel computing, and many other topics. The book is strictly goal-oriented, focusing on the solution of fundamental problems in the geosciences, such as positioning and point cloud problems. As such, at no point does it discuss purely theoretical mathematics. "The book delivers hybrid symbolic-numeric solutions, which are a large and growing area at the boundary of mathematics and computer science." Dr. Daniel Li chtbau

Studies In Volcanology written by Thor Thordarson and has been published by Geological Society of London this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009 with Nature categories.

Professor George Patrick Leonard Walker was one of the fathers of modern quantitative volcanology and arguably the foremost volcanologist of the twentieth century. In his long career, George studied a wide spectrum of volcanological problems and in doing so influenced almost every branch of the field. This volume, which honours his memory and his contributions to the field of volcanology, contains a collection of papers inspired by, and building upon, many of the ideas previously developed by George. Many of the contributors either directly studied under and worked with George, or were profoundly influenced by his ideas. The topics broadly fall under the three themes of lava flows and effusion, explosive volcanism, and volcanoes and their infrastructure.

Vertical Reference Systems written by Hermann Drewes and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-06-29 with Science categories.

The Symposium on Vertical Reference Systems (VeReS) was initiated on the occasion of the XXII General Assembly of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG), Birmingham 1999, by Professor Dr. Wolfgang Torge, Past President of the International Association of Geodesy (lAG) and representative of lAG to the Pan-American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH). The idea was to organise another joint symposium of lAG and PAIGH like the previous one held during the XX IUGG General Assembly at Vienna, Austria, in 1991. Good reasons for such a joint symposium were the great success and the ongoing activities of the Project on the South American Geocentric Reference System (Sistema de Referencia Geocentrico para America del Sur, SIRGAS) being sponsored by lAG and PAIGH since 1993. The SIR GAS Project (Working Group I) had presented a continental South American reference frame of 58 stations during the lAG Scientific Assembly at Rio de Janeiro, in 1997. This reference frame was already adopted by several South American countries as the basis for their new national horizontal geodetic datums (SIRGAS Working Group II). To overcome the problems of the heterogeneous vertical (height) datums between the individual countries, SIRGAS had installed its Working Group III "Vertical Datum" in 1997. As the discussion on the unification of vertical reference systems is also going on in lAG and other bodies of science and practice, it was decided to dedicate the symposium to this topic.
