Contending that its characterization as a Christian document has hindered interpretation, Marshall aims to uncover the formerly hidden Jewishness of the Book of Revelation of John. The focus is on four text complexes which describe the "synagogue of Satan;" those who keep the commandments of God; the 144,000 gathered on Zion; and the holy city. Coverage extends to a description of the social and cultural context of the diaspora during the Judean war. Marshall teaches early Christianity and Second Temple Judaism at the U. of Toronto. Amos Wilder is widely known as a pioneer of an indigenously North American approach to biblical interpretation which takes language to be an expression not only of psychological but also of sociological and concrete reality. Recording the history of his interest in eschatological language, Wilder further advances the literary and rhetorical criticism of Scripture, especially by alerting interpreters to the deeper modes of language and communication often overlooked. The essays in this volume, recaptured and edited to clarify their relatedness, are presented in two groups. The first group includes essays that situate the parables of Jesus within the broader context of the biblical narrative. The second is a series of essays dealing with the problem of adequately interpreting the "kingdom language" of Jesus. The book includes an essay in which Wilder chronicles and advances his long interest in the task of doing justice to the imaginative dimension of biblical language. Wilder develops a contemporary hermeneutic that combines the full range of historical-critical methods with approaches generated by various modern disciplines which attempt to do full justice to the interrelationship of language and reality. The preface by James Breech offers an exposition of the main features of Wilder's hermeneutic, together with a discussion of Wilder's understanding of parabolic narrative and Jesus' symbolics.

Upon reading and becoming inspired by the works of Spencer Johnson and his profound parables that transcend race, gender, profession, time, and age, I chose to write a parable covering World War II. If George Orwell could create a masterpiece by making pigs of men, I figured even the feeblest of minds could make boys of countries. Often times less is more; whether in terms of orated speeches, presentations, books, or conversations. Although lengthy books are of necessity for experts and those aspiring to be, the average person will simply neglect a 650-page book concerning World War II, or any singular event in history. Instead, with a society that places a premium on time, people want to receive information in a concise, insightful, and efficient manner. Hence, I attempted to achieve just that in this short story. This is book provides a parable/story that offers a fresh, unique, and profound way to look at World War II, by seeing it through the actions of school children within a schoolhouse. First and foremost, the title Kids Will Be Kids refers to the old adage that basically explains kids do what they do because that's what they've always done. In other words, history repeats itself. Each character found within the pages of this book represent the involved nations and their actions during the melodrama of World War II. Each of these actions and their roles, subsequently, led to its start in September of 1939 and its eventual conclusion in August of 1945. Even though a reader would have to delve into additional books to fully comprehend World War II, the transgressions within this book could be used to serve multiple purposes and to reach a variety of fronts. There are main derivatives that this book offers to a reader? it is refreshing and profound, it is simplistic yet challenging, and it is both efficient and engaging. This book offers something pertaining to World War II that is fresh, unique, and powerful? something that shies away from the dull and dreary, the minute details and the content associated with history.

If George Orwell could create a masterpiece by making pigs of men, I figured even the feeblest of minds could make boys of countries. Often times less is more; whether in terms of orated speeches, presentations, books, or conversations. Did you know that Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg address was only 273 words long? Or that Martin Luther King Jr.'s, "I have a Dream" speech was roughly sixteen minutes in length? Although lengthy, detailed books are of necessity for experts and those aspiring to be, the average person will simply neglect a 650-page book concerning World War II, or any singular event in history. Instead, with a society that places a premium on time, people want to receive information in a concise, insightful, and efficient manner. Hence, I attempted to achieve just that in this short story. By seeing World War II through the actions of school children within a schoolhouse, this book provides a parable/story that offers a fresh, unique, and profound way to look at the greatest catastrophe of the 20th century. First and foremost, the message of the book is reinforced by the title Kids Will Be Kids: A World War II Parable. It refers to the old adage that basically explains kids do what they do because that's what they've always done. In other words, in the rudimentary sense, history repeats itself. Each character found within the pages of this book represents the involved nations and their actions during the melodrama of World War II. Each of these actions and their roles, subsequently, led to its start in September of 1939 and its eventual conclusion in August of 1945. Since the beginning of man, people have truly enjoyed listening to or reading stories. As we all know, stories provide powerful avenues to relay information; they create memorable and lasting impressions, stir emotions, and construct strong connections between a character and an event. I am passionate and have become convinced that those who read this book will draw the necessary connections to the past. As a history educator, the book offers a parable, where colleagues in the profession can use a different approach with their students to introduce or conclude World War II. It would be my greatest joy to have you enjoy this book immensely!

Modern parables and prose poems representing a dynamically shifting vision of the world, reminiscent of Kafka and Borges. "Fixel's parables and prose poems are...like rituals--exorcisms that keep the reader aware of the world while dispelling its authority over the spirit."--American Book Review

Parables Of Permanent War written by Kurt Jacobsen and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with History categories.

Parables of Permanent War is a political, and, inescapably, moral chronicle of U.S. responses to the 9/11 attacks and the grave consequences at home and abroad. There is, or ought to be, no such thing as a 'permanent war, ' but U.S. elites are determined to pursue one. Bush's administration transformed a heinous criminal act of mass murder into a self-serving undeclared "war" against stateless foes. The authors reveal how a 'permanent war' suited the neoconservative advisors and the core of corporate and private donors that helped George W. Bush into office and shine a new light on the Bush administration's actions. Parables of Permanent War arranges essays around a number of parables, indicating the deeper dysfunctions and delusions that drive this ongoing "permanent war."
