In mathematics and physics it is quite common to test a theory, model or equation by examining how they behave at the limits of the phenomena in consideration. This is where the use and results of a paradox arise. Typically the paradox is based on the sound logic or reasoning of the premise under consideration but leads to a contradiction that seems impossible, illogical or a violation in the principle of the premise. A simple example that is usually encountered is the following; 'If God is omnipotent, can God create an object so heavy that He can not lift it'. Another such paradox exists when we consider traveling backward in time. If traveling backward in time is possible a person could travel back to a time before they were born and alter history in such a way that they will never be born (such as killing their parents). This effects the way that science considers the logic of a situation. This four volume series discusses the various paradoxes that have been formulated over the years.

Paradoxology written by Krish Kandiah and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-04-10 with Religion categories.

The Christian faith is full of apparent paradoxes: - a compassionate God who sanctions genocide - an all-powerful God who allows horrific suffering - a God who owns everything yet demands so much from his followers - a God who is distant and yet present at the same time Many of us have big questions that the Christian faith seems to leave unanswered. So we push them to the back of our minds, for fear of destabilizing our beliefs. But leaving these questions unexamined is neither healthy for us, nor honouring to God. Rather than shying away from the difficult questions, we need to face them head on. What if the tension between apparently opposing doctrines is exactly where faith comes alive? What if this ancient faith has survived so long not in spite of but precisely because of these apparent contradictions? What if it is in the difficult parts of the Bible that God is most clearly revealed? Paradoxology makes a bold new claim: that the paradoxes that seem like they ought to undermine belief are actually the heart of our vibrant faith, and that it is only by continually wrestling with them - rather than trying to pin them down or push them away - that we can really move forward, individually and together.

Theophobia written by Bruce Beasley and has been published by BOA Editions, Ltd. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-09-18 with Poetry categories.

Theophobia is the latest volume in Bruce Beasley's ongoing spiritual meditation which forms a kind of postmodern devotional poetry in a reinvention of the tradition of John Donne, George Herbert, Emily Dickinson, Gerard Manley Hopkins, and T. S. Eliot. Theophobia is structured around a series of poems called "Pilgrim's Deviations" and forms a deviant and deviating pilgrimage through science, history, politics, and popular culture. Beasley seeks the Biblical Kingdom of God among Dolly the cloned sheep, the wonders and horrors of extremophilic creatures living in astonishing intensities of temperature, robotic phone operators, and Wikipedia's explanation of the mysteries of the Holy Spirit. Bruce Beasley is the author of six poetry collections, most recently The Corpse Flower: New and Selected Poems (University of Washington Press, 2007). He has won fellowships from the NEA and the Artist Trust of Washington and three Pushcart Prizes.

Have we missed the Bible’s consistent teaching that God is other, higher, stranger? Krish Kandiah offers us a fresh look at some of the difficult, awkward, and even troubling Bible passages, challenging us to replace our sanitized concept of God with a more awe-inspiring, true-to-the-Bible God. Allow yourself to be surprised by God as you find him in unexpected places doing the unexpected.
