Although the word parapsychology suggests a field of research that exists "beside psychology," its studies are not only related to psychology but to religion, anthropology, physics, and other areas as well. Parapsychology's history may be divided into three periods: from prehistory to the latter part of the nineteenth century; the last three decades of the nineteenth century and the first decades of the twentieth; and the present period. This essay, chapter 1 from Psychic Exploration, details the history of parapsychology. The full volume of Psychic Exploration can be purchased as an ebook or paperback version from all major online retailers and at cosimobooks.com.

Are we more than our physical bodies? Do we survive bodily death? Does precognition, telepathy, distant healing, clairvoyance and ESP exist? How about near-death experiences, out-of-body experiences, remote viewing, Peak in Darien experiences and Deathbed Visions? In Parapsychology: A Century of Enquiry, D. Scott Rogo, one of the most prolific investigative journalists in the genre, examined anomalous phenomena in his own compelling, engaging style before his life was cut short in 1991. It's a subject-arguably the most important subject-where there are countless examples of anecdotal evidence but very few ways of measuring and predicting outcomes, therefore materialist science maintains, "There's no scientific evidence; it's a coincidence; wish fulfilment, confirmation bias; the law of large numbers, delusion or a hallucination. The scientific debate has raged since the mid 1800s. Meanwhile, the phenomena continues to occur, and with the advent of the internet we can see it happens all over the world and has throughout history. A mother wakes up because her baby is experiencing convulsions. She takes her to the hospital at 2:00am. The next day she receives a letter from her mother a thousand miles away which reads: "Be careful with the baby. Dad dreamed about her this week. He was quite disturbed because although he kept reaching and reaching for her, she kept slipping away from him until she was gone." The baby dies a few days later. Coincidence or a premonition? You decide.

By now, parapsychology should have become an accepted scientific field of research. However, there is great resistance to parapsychological research despite the strength of evidence in favor of conducting it. This collection of essays focuses on the future of the psychical research field. One essay speculates about a kind of future when psychic phenomena are studied in every university. Another identifies 10 areas of potential difficulty facing parapsychology. Other essays indicate areas where conclusions may need re-examination and refinement and presents possibilities for innovative approaches to future study. Some of the areas of study covered include altered states of consciousness, ESP, Meta-Analysis, the theory of psychopraxia, and sociological and phenomenological issues.

Psychological Perspectives On Reality Consciousness And Paranormal Experience written by Tony Jinks and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-10-03 with Psychology categories.

This book explores various explanatory frameworks for paranormal encounters. It opens with the story of an inexplicable human figure seen crossing a secluded hotel corridor, interpreted as a ghost by the sole witness. The subsequent chapters explore the three most important historical perspectives accounting for this and other types of paranormal experience. Each perspective is examined from first principles, with specific reference to what happened in the corridor, how it happened, why it happened, and who might be responsible. The first perspective considers the experience to be legitimate – to be something real – and various possibilities are presented that are grounded in the paranormal and parapsychological literature, among which a “ghost” is one putative explanation. In turn, the second perspective treats the experience as being wholly illegitimate. With reference to psychological theory, the ghost sighting is a product of erroneous consciousness. The third perspective is different yet again, and considers the sighting to be authentic, but argues that explaining the ghost requires a radical departure from conventional models of reality and consciousness. By contrasting these three paths, the book provides a valuable resource for readers interested in the philosophical and psychological origins of explanations for paranormal experiences, from the 19th century to the present. It will appeal to general readers in addition to students and scholars of parapsychology, anomalistic psychology, and consciousness studies.

PSI or parapsychological phenomena have been investigated by serious researchers for well over a century. Despite some diehard skeptics, the existence of PSI has now been solidly established by competent scientists using the most rigorous methodologies. Yet, a complete understanding of the phenomena of telepathy, precognition, clairvoyance, and psychokinesis has remained elusive for two reasons. First, a new worldview was needed to replace the outdated materialism assumed by so many scientists and philosophers. That view, “Mental Realism,” was developed in Keith Chandler’s last book, The Mind Paradigm: A Unified Model of Mental and Physical Reality. Second, a thorough review of the evidence for PSI was required to expose the erroneous assumptions that had hindered its theoretical progress. That task has been successfully undertaken by the author enabling him to entitle this book simply: PSI: What it is and How it works. With this book, Keith Chandler has now brought us full circle from the clockwork, sensory-bound world of Descartes and Newton to an understanding of our universe as a manifestation of purposeful, intelligent psychic energy. He has also finally removed parapsychology from the category of the “occult” and placed it where it belongs, in the domain of legitimate science.

The Parapsychology Revolution written by Robert M. Schoch and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-01-31 with Body, Mind & Spirit categories.

Grounded in both scientific acumen and constructive inquiry, this anthology shines a rare, clarifying light on the controversial realms of psychical and paranormal research, surveying reports, essays, and arguments from more than a century of investigation into matters such as clairvoyance, telepathy, and past-life regression. In the past one hundred and twenty-five years-despite a relative paucity of funding and the troubling persistence of fraud-serious inquiry into the paranormal, particularly as it relates to clairvoyance and psychical perception, has successfully entered the scientific age. Studies in the modern laboratory, employing rigorous methodology and peer-reviewed oversight, have conclusively detected statistical anomalies that suggest the presence of some not yet understood faculty of the human mind. In The Parapsychology Revolution, Robert M. Schoch, Ph.D.-a scholar widely known for his geological theories that question the conventional dating of the Great Sphinx-and researcher Logan Yonavjak introduce and anthologize core writings that underscore the range and continuing challenges of psychical research. The book's extensive introduction and the editors' commentary on individual essays and sections highlight milestones, feuds, and key players that mark the nascent history of this fascinating and important field of research. Finally, The Parapsychology Revolution addresses and clarifies the all-important question: Is there legitimate evidence for a world beyond the ordinary?
