“The book is comprised of individual reviews with the common goal of providing up-to-date state of the knowledge information on the role the environment plays in the pathogenesis of parkinsonism. The reviews focus on recent advances in the quest of deciphering the molecular and cellular mechanisms of parkinsonian dysfunction, highlight specific emerging dopaminergic toxicants and an alternative experimental model to study the link between environmental exposures and parkinsonism, and provide an update from epidemiological and experimental points of view related to the pesticide exposures and parkinsonism/Parkinson’s Disease association. Foremost experts in their respective fields are the senior authors on each chapter and the book fills a critical void that now exists as a book of similar nature has not been published in the last 15 years. Researchers and clinicians with an interest in Parkinson's Disease and related disorders, as well as toxicologists, graduate students, and the general public who are interested in the contribution of environmental factors to neurological dysfunction are among the readership for this book.”

The built environment lacks the infrastructure people with Parkinson's Disease (PwPD) require to navigate it independently. In progressive cases, PwPD require substantial help from their informal caregivers and therefore an unsupportive environment affects both. Surprisingly, there is almost no literature on the environmental needs of PwPD and their caregivers. The goal of this research was to better understand the impact the built environment has on PwPD and how this may influence caregivers' ability to access respite. Online Parkinson's Disease support group forums were analyzed using NVivo revealing the ways the built environment is a support and a barrier for PwPD and the ways caregivers use their environment during respite. The findings were categorized into themes for consideration by landscape architects. A better understanding of the role the built environment plays in the lives of PwPD and their caregivers allows landscape architects to better design for the needs of this population.

In this "must-read" guide (Lonnie Ali), four leading doctors and advocates offer a bold action plan to prevent, care for, and treat Parkinson's disease-one of the great health challenges of our time. Brain diseases are now the world's leading source of disability. The fastest growing of these is Parkinson's: the number of impacted patients has doubled to more than six million over the last twenty-five years and is projected to double again by 2040. Harmful pesticides that increase the risk of Parkinson's continue to proliferate, many people remain undiagnosed and untreated, research funding stagnates, and the most effective treatment is now a half century old. In Ending Parkinson's Disease, four top experts provide a plan to help prevent Parkinson's, improve care and treatment, and end the silence associated with this devastating disease.
