Offers essays demonstrating the critical relevance of Irigaray’s thought of sexual difference for addressing contemporary ethical and social issues. Engaging the World explores Luce Irigaray’s writings on sexual difference, deploying the resources of her work to rethink philosophical concepts and commitments and expose new possibilities of vitality in relationship to nature, others, and to one’s self. The contributors present a range of perspectives from multiple disciplines such as philosophy, literature, education, evolutionary theory, sound technology, science and technology, anthropology, and psychoanalysis. They place Irigaray in conversation with thinkers as diverse as Charles Darwin, Claude Lévi-Strauss, Gilles Deleuze, René Decartes, and Avital Ronell. While every essay challenges Irigaray’s thought in some way, each one also reveals the transformative effects of her thought across multiple domains of contemporary life.

Emotion And Cognitive Life In Medieval And Early Modern Philosophy written by Martin Pickavé and has been published by OUP Oxford this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-10-04 with Philosophy categories.

This volume offers a much needed shift of focus in the study of emotion in the history of philosophy. Discussion has tended to focus on the moral relevance of emotions, and (except in ancient philosophy) the role of emotions in cognitive life has received little attention. Thirteen new essays investigate the continuities between medieval and early modern thinking about the emotions, and open up a contemporary debate on the relationship between emotions, cognition, and reason, and the way emotions figure in our own cognitive lives. A team of leading philosophers of the medieval, renaissance, and early modern periods explore these ideas from the point of view of four key themes: the situation of emotions within the human mind; the intentionality of emotions and their role in cognition; emotions and action; the role of emotion in self-understanding and the social situation of individuals.

Beckett And Ethics written by Russell Smith and has been published by A&C Black this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-10-20 with Literary Criticism categories.

At first glance, Samuel Beckett's writing-where scenes of violence and cruelty often provide the occasion for an unremittingly bleak comedy-would seem to offer the reader few examples of ethical conduct. However, following the recent "ethical turn" in critical theory, there has been growing interest in the ethicality of Beckett's work. Following Alain Badiou's highly influential claim for Beckett as essentially an ethical thinker, it is time to ask: What is the relation between Beckett's work and the ethical? Is Beckett's work profoundly ethical in its implications, as both humanist and deconstructionist readings have insisted in their different ways? Or does Beckett's work in some way call into question the entire notion of the ethical? This provocative collection of essays seeks to map out this emerging debate in Beckett criticism. It will be a landmark contribution to an exciting new field, not only in Beckett Studies, but in literary studies and critical theory more broadly.

A Sure Foundation written by Dave Proulx and has been published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-08-25 with Religion categories.

The study of God's word is a lifetime pursuit, a gentle, enduring passion worthy of your best effort. But where is the love and harmony that should characterize discourse between Christians? God's word, which ought to unite us, is too often the source of strife and contention. One reason for this discord is a lack of scriptural knowledge: having only a fragmentary understanding of God's word, we allow tradition, philosophy, and opinion to replace scripture as the basis of our beliefs. In A Sure Foundation, Dave Proulx introduces "comprehensive context": the concept that when we prayerfully study all of God's word on a subject, misunderstanding and contention are greatly diminished. As Jesus taught, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God" (Matt. 4:4). The author explores three general topics using comprehensive context: the nature of God, the nature of humanity, and the many aspects of salvation. Each chapter includes a list of citations containing everything the scriptures say on the topic. No selection, no filtering, no favorites; just a sky-wide view of everything in God's word regarding that subject, placing every doctrine in the context of a totality of scripture. A Sure Foundation: God, Man, and Salvation will forever change the way you use scripture. So grab a hot mug and settle down for hours of immersive study. Expand your understanding of God's word with the help of the Holy Spirit. Deepen your love and appreciation for our Father in heaven and for our Savior, Jesus Christ. Your time will be well spent and amply rewarded.
