Fractured Freedom A Prison Memoir A Story Of Passion Commitment And A Search For Justice And Freedom written by Kobad Ghandy and has been published by Roli Books Private Limited this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-03-15 with Juvenile Nonfiction categories.

Born in the cradle of upper-middle-class privilege in a Mumbai Parsi household and educated at one of India’s finest schools, KOBAD GHANDY’S life and career could have scaled heights in the bustling world of corporate finance. Only it did not. Instead, he chose to become an activist working for the oppressed of the country. Shocked by the racism he witnessed in the UK as a student and learning of the horrors of colonial rule in India, he determined to serve those struck the harshest by the cruel inequalities of his country. Fractured Freedom takes you through the journey of an honest man and his partner, Anuradha’s, to a difficult destiny. Here is the story of two people who dedicated their lives in the service of the marginalized, and who believed that true revolution required direct action for a more human and just society. Part memoir, part prison diary, Ghandy bares it all looking back at their lives, love, loss and politics, so intrinsically tied together. Having languished in Indian prisons for over a decade, he tells of his long incarceration, of his fellow prisoners, and of the Kafkaesque experiences with the Indian legal system. This is the candid and unfiltered account of how an unjust system breaks the brave and bold-hearted. A story of life in extremes – the height of privilege and the depth of despair, a story of our times, of a path many would shy away from.

Embracing Your Freedom written by Susie Larson and has been published by Moody Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-09-23 with Religion categories.

While our culture places great emphasis on comfort, security, control, and success, there are deeper rewards for those who take hold of God’s promises and reach out in the Name of Christ. Adventure, faith, miracles, and a deep knowledge of Jesus Christ. This is what Susie calls her readers to realize. Author/Speaker Susie Larson makes her message graspable, accessible, and doable. Her stories, scriptural devotionals, and study questions set the stage for a first-hand experience of God’s heart for personal freedom, for the plight of the suffering, and for a conviction to get involved with His work among those in need. While the book’s primary focus is on the reader’s journey into freedom, it clearly conveys our shared responsibility to “seek justice, rescue the oppressed, defend the orphan, [and] plead for the widow” (Isaiah 1:17, nrsv). This is God’s expectation for those who truly know Him. When we live in bondage to our fears, insecurities, shame, guilt, despair, or sinful appetites, we live self-focused lives. But when we embrace our freedom in Christ, our hearts are released from captivity and we view everything around us—our relationships, resources, responsibilities, and opportunities—as tools to bring that same freedom to those who desperately need it. This book is for the woman who wants to grow stronger in her walk of faith and who wants to gain a greater view of God’s heart for the world. And it’s to this we are called. May she be provoked, to be as free as God meant her to be. And as a result, may she become an advocate for the freedoms of others. Each chapter includes devotional insights, justice quotes, anecdotes, prayer guidance, and study/reflective questions.

A Passion for Justice By: Ralph D. Fertig “Ralph D. Fertig documents origins and episodes in the Civil Rights Movement. He has been a steady and consistent advocate for civil rights through non-violent direct action in most of his 88 years. We met in the 1961 Freedom Rides and in his book, A Passion for Justice, Fertig chronicles struggles for desegregation before, through and since then. In the current political climate, this is a book for today.” -John Lewis, US Congressman Hailed by the Washington Post as the “Conscience of Washington,” and by the Los Angeles Times as “a cog in the wheel of justice,” Ralph D. Fertig began his social activism in his home, filled with German Jewish refugees. In high school and college, he campaigned for desegregation and justice in housing and employment. At the University of Chicago, he fought for academic freedom. He began social work organizing peace between warring street gangs on Chicago’s South side. Fertig organized programs for equal rights with the Congress Of Racial Equality and the Americans for Democratic Action. He became a Freedom Rider on a bus bound for Jackson, Mississippi, to help integrate interstate buses. The Sheriff in Selma, Alabama threw him in jail, where White prisoners kicked in his ribs. While running a community center in Washington, D.C., he organized welfare mothers and public housing tenants. Martin Luther King, Jr. invited him to help mobilize the iconic 1963 March on Washington, and to help lobby for the Civil Rights Act of 1964. He ran the Greater Los Angeles Community Action Agency serving thousands of disadvantaged people, became a civil rights lawyer, and then a Federal Administrative Judge, ruling on cases of employment discrimination. He taught at the USC School of Social Work rising to the level of full professor, and where he is now a professor emeritus. As President of the Humanitarian Law Project, he was a consultant to the United Nations, and challenged restrictions to free speech in the USA PATRIOT Act before the U.S. Supreme Court. Fertig’s earlier book, Love and Liberation, was a Los Angeles Times best seller, praised in its Kirkus review as “a sweeping Jewish love story couched in revolution, and it is written in with an apt power and elegance. The book is a contained epic… An intimate, compassionate work of historical fiction.”

In 1945, when southern segregationist Judge J. Waties Waring turned civil rights activist, he became the first jurist in modern times to declare segregated schooling "inequality per se." Throughout his career he also ordered the equalization of teachers' salaries, outlawed South Carolina's white primary, and urged the complete breakdown of state-enforced bars to racial intermingling. Yarbrough examines the life and career of this fascinating but neglected jurist, assessing the controversy he generated and his place in the early history of the modern civil rights movement.

This richly detailed biography illustrates how a determined Canadian seeking justice created an enduring legacy. Through vigorous battles, Jim McRuer’s passion for justice was translated into laws that daily touch and protect the lives of millions today. James Chalmers McRuer was not easy to get along with or even much liked by many lawyers who dubbed him ’Vinegar Jim.’ Yet countless others saw him as heroic, inspirational, a man above and apart from his times. His resolute focus on justice changed the lives of married women with no property rights, children without legal protection, aboriginals caught in the whipsaw of traditional hunting practices and imposed game laws, and prisoners locked away and forgotten. Environmental degradation and those causing it, murderers, stock fraud artists and Cold War spies all came within the ambit of J. C. McRuer’s sharp legal mind and passion for justice. Upon turning 75, McRuer embarked on his most important work of all, becoming Canada’s greatest law reformer and remaining active into his 90s.
