Path of Life: The Way of Wisdom for Christ Followers looks at wisdom literature from the perspective of a pastor deeply concerned about the condition of contemporary society. Western culture in general and American culture in particular has unwisely cut itself off from its deepest spiritual, moral, and practical roots in the Judeo-Christian tradition. Overcoming the deep-seated incoherence of our society will involve a recovery of sources of moral and practical wisdom that lie at the very roots of human society. This book is an attempt to take a look at these roots in a way that is accessible not just to experts but also to laypersons who are willing to work a bit to understand the sources of our current condition and the way forward.

Path of Life was the last book written by Lev Tolstoy. Although the great nineteenth century Russian novelist is known in English-speaking countries for his major novels: War and Peace; Anna Karenina; and Resurrection. He is less known for his numerous religious writings, which present a challenging and original point of view. These works have been undervalued, as evidenced by the fact that Path of Life is translated here fully in English. The reader will notice that Tolstoy anticipated many of the ideas presented in contemporary books on spirituality, such as the observation that our thoughts determine our lives. Tolstoy began to write this book in 1910, the last year of his life, when he was 82 years old. Given that he began the book in January and completed it in October of the same year, one would think the writing went quickly; but it only seems that way. Tolstoy actually had been developing the themes presented in Path of Life for the last thirty years of his life. In Path of Life Tolstoy defines how to find continuous happiness in life and how to die without fear. In presenting his views, he cites his own ideas and includes many quotations from an eclectic collection of anci

"When I finally made the right decision and accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour, I was sure I was on the right path. Then I began to meet church people. Thats when the confusion started. It seemed like they all called themselves something different. Some people were Christians. Some people were believers. Some people were born again. Some people were saved. I was baffl ed. What was I? What category did I fi t into? Did each of these names have a different method; did each one follow a different path? I didnt know what category I fi t into and after a while I wasnt sure if I fit into any category, because no one seemed to agree on what they all meant. I kept fi nding different interpretations of what I thought was the truth. I know that God is not the author of confusion. So I started to pray. I started asking God for the answer. I have learned one thing. Regardless of what we call ourselves or how we interpret it or apply it, there is only one Truth. Regardless of the route we think we have to take to reach Heaven, there is only one path for a Christian; that is the Path of Life. There is only one roadmap for a born again believer...that is the Word of God, the Bible."

Do you automatically believe everything you hear? Everything you’re told? Everything you’ve learned? Most people will emphatically say no to those questions, but there is a place where people often almost blindly accept everything they’re taught. Often, people tend to be passive in their religious beliefs, spending very little time considering their relationship with God, their understanding of scripture and their place in the Body of Christ. I think it goes without saying that this is one area of life where we should be very diligent, but many people spend more time analyzing things like politics, sports scores and what to wear each day than they do the accuracy of the sermons they hear or the validity of the books they read. I am hoping to help you change these habits. THE PATH OF LIFE is about learning how to gracefully challenge everything you’re taught. We need to develop and nurture a healthy sense of curiosity and then acquire the tools to find answers to our questions. This book will be an important resource to help change archaic thought patterns and also discover deeper and more rewarding levels of Righteousness, Peace and Joy than you ever thought possible.

This culminating work, a spiritual testament from Tolstoy's later years, distills a lifetime of philosophical inquiry into a guide for ethical living, offering reflections on mortality, faith, and the essence of human existence. It serves as a compendium of wisdom, both personal and universal. "Path of Life," or "Путь жизни" in Russian, was compiled by Leo Tolstoy between 1903 and 1910, and published in 1910. This book represents the culmination of Tolstoy's life's work, serving as his final philosophical and spiritual testament. It brings together his own thoughts and selected quotations from various world philosophers and sages, including Kant, Lessing, Marcus Aurelius, Rousseau, Schopenhauer, Ramakrishna, Grigory Skovoroda, and John Chrysostom. The composition is a collection of reflections on fundamental human concerns such as death and immortality, the nature of true religion and faith, the meaning of love, and the purpose of life. It was preceded by other similar compilations like "Thoughts of Wise People," "Circle of Reading," and "For Every Day". "Path of Life" functions as Tolstoy's spiritual instruction, a guide for readers seeking to understand his mature worldview and his ultimate conclusions on how one should live. This critical reader's edition presents a modern translation of the original manuscript, crafted for the modern reader with clean, contemporary language and simplified sentence structures that clarify his complex Russian phrasing and specific antiquated references. Supplementary material enriches the text with autobiographical, historical, and linguistic context, including an afterword by the translator on Tolstoy’s personal history, impact, and intellectual legacy, an index of the philosophical concepts he employs—emphasizing Existentialism and influence by Schopenhauer—a comprehensive chronological list of his published writings, and a detailed timeline of his life, highlighting the personal relationships that shaped his philosophy.

The Path to Being a Better Man Many modern men are consumed by anger, frustration, aggression, and fear. We are unable to connect effectively as a spouse, a father, a friend, and even a leader. We push people away, lash out at those we love the most, and keep our inner struggles to ourselves. This disjunction from the outside world poisons our relationships and threatens our ability to find true fulfillment. But there is a path to a better version of the modern man. By confronting the inner challenges that inform our outward behaviors, we can reshape ourselves. With help and courage, we can set off on a new journey toward better relationships, more honest and effective communication, and an overall better life. Tony C. Daloisio harnesses over thirty years of professional experience as a practicing psychologist and researcher, as well as his own personal journey, to illuminate the road to a well lived life. The path—and the journeyman—will never be perfect, but the journey itself will lead to lasting positive change for ourselves and for our loved ones.

For the first time, an award-winning Harvard professor shares his wildly popular course on classical Chinese philosophy, showing you how ancient ideas—like the fallacy of the authentic self—can guide you on the path to a good life today. Why is a course on ancient Chinese philosophers one of the most popular at Harvard? Because it challenges all our modern assumptions about what it takes to flourish. Astonishing teachings emerged two thousand years ago through the work of a succession of Chinese scholars exploring how humans can improve themselves and their society. And what are these counterintuitive ideas? Transformation comes not from looking within for a true self, but from creating conditions that produce new possibilities. Good relationships come not from being sincere and authentic, but from the rituals we perform within them. A good life emerges not from planning it out, but through training ourselves to respond well to small moments. Influence comes not from wielding power but from holding back. Excellence comes from what we choose to do, not our natural abilities. In other words, The Path “opens the mind” (Huffington Post) and upends everything we are told about how to lead a good life. Its most radical idea is that there is no path to follow in the first place—just a journey we create anew at every moment by seeing and doing things differently. “With its…spirited, convincing vision, revolutionary new insights can be gleaned from this book on how to approach life’s multifarious situations with both heart and head” (Kirkus Reviews). A note from the publisher: To read relevant passages from the original works of Chinese philosophy, see our ebook Confucius, Mencius, Laozi, Zhuangzi, Xunzi: Selected Passages, available wherever books are sold.
