It is now possible for physicians to recognize that a pregnant woman's fetus is facing life-threatening problems, perform surgery on the fetus, and if it survives, return it to the woman's uterus to finish gestation. Although fetal surgery has existed in various forms for three decades, it is only just beginning to capture the public's imagination. These still largely experimental procedures raise all types of medical, political and ethical questions. The Making of the Unborn Patient examines two important and connected events of the second half of the 20th century: the emergence of fetal surgery as a new medical specialty and the debut of the unborn patient.

The MOTHER is all of life in the eyes of a child. Throughout time and history, there has been one consistent principle upon which the human race exists, and that is progeny. The propagation of the human race. The mother and child bond unites all cultures and is the glue keeping our humanity intact. The work of a MOTHER never stops. "Mother"- the most underpaid and underappreciated title in human existence. When I first started my private practice as an OB/GYN, doctors had the time they needed to properly educate their patients. Unfortunately, times have changed, and there is very little one-on-one face time with the doctor, leaving patients with educational voids. With full disclosure upfront, I am not professing to be an expert, nor to be working in an academic teaching capacity. I'm a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist in a solo private practice with 36 years of experience. I think of myself as a blue-collar doctor, a clinician dedicated to my patients. I feel that the role of the obstetrician is to educate the mother and continue an ever-flowing dialogue throughout her pregnancy journey. All mothers have a universal commonality and that is to deliver a healthy child. The amount of available information via the internet is so vastly overwhelming. With a sensory overload, it is difficult to find a simple, reliable guide. Once the word is out that you are pregnant, it seems that the world is full of experts. My goal in writing this guide is to provide a concise, easy-to-read educational guide on pregnancy from the perspective of an OB/GYN. My format is to make you, my reader, my virtual patient. The human body is designed to adjust and accommodate for pregnancy. It is resilient, and will self-regulate its physiology. Consider it as a cruise control. My goal is to give you an up-to-date roadmap and attempt to create the optimal intrauterine environment, the perfect living room! I hope you enjoy this book filled with an abundance of resources you can go to for additional information. So please sit back and relax as I talk with you from my living room!

Critical care in obstetrics is an upcoming specialty in the developing countries. This book is first of its kind as there are very few books written on this subject with the South East Asian perspective. The book discusses various aspects of critical care in obstetrics starting from the basic principles, physiology, ethics, monitoring and organization of a critical care unit. The various chapters cover management of life threatening illnesses involving various organ systems of the body of a pregnant woman. Furthermore, the management of a pregnant woman is unique as it involves not only management of the patient but the developing fetus in her womb as well. This book aims to help the obstetricians, postgraduate students and critical care providers with the management protocols in dealing with critically ill pregnant women.

The Human Placenta written by C. Redman and has been published by Wiley-Blackwell this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993-01-18 with Medical categories.

The placenta is fascinating and complex. Basically foreign to the maternal body, it can be thought of as an organ transplanted onto the mother's host tissue. As such it embodies all the principles of tissue acceptance and rejection. Many of the risks of pregnancy and labor have now been eliminated and the placenta is likely to be at the root of many of the dangers to the unborn child that remain. A breakdown of the relationship between the placenta and the maternal tissue may turn out to be the cause of the majority of early lost pregnancies.

Policing The Womb written by Michele Goodwin and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-03-12 with Health & Fitness categories.

In Policing the Womb, Michele Goodwin explores how states abuse laws and infringe on rights to police women and their pregnancies. This book looks at the impact of these often arbitrary laws which can result in the punishment, incarceration, and humiliation of women, particularly poor women and women of color. Frequently based on unscientific claims of endangering a fetus, these laws allow extraordinary powers to state authorities over reproductive freedom and pregnancies. In this book, Michele Goodwin discusses real examples of women whose pregnancies have been controlled by the law and what has led to the United States being the deadliest country in the developed world for a woman to be pregnant.

The first section addresses the five major complications (hemorrhage, respiratory failure, renal failure, sepsis, and multi-organ syndrome) that can occur in any trauma patient. The second section, Prehospital and Emergency Center Trauma Complications, discusses the problems inherent in the first stages of managing a trauma patient, as well as those that can occur within systems (transportation, communication). Ask Me About My Uterus written by Abby Norman and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-03-06 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

For any woman who has experienced illness, chronic pain, or endometriosis comes an inspiring memoir advocating for recognition of women's health issues In the fall of 2010, Abby Norman's strong dancer's body dropped forty pounds and gray hairs began to sprout from her temples. She was repeatedly hospitalized in excruciating pain, but the doctors insisted it was a urinary tract infection and sent her home with antibiotics. Unable to get out of bed, much less attend class, Norman dropped out of college and embarked on what would become a years-long journey to discover what was wrong with her. It wasn't until she took matters into her own hands -- securing a job in a hospital and educating herself over lunchtime reading in the medical library -- that she found an accurate diagnosis of endometriosis. In Ask Me About My Uterus, Norman describes what it was like to have her pain dismissed, to be told it was all in her head, only to be taken seriously when she was accompanied by a boyfriend who confirmed that her sexual performance was, indeed, compromised. Putting her own trials into a broader historical, sociocultural, and political context, Norman shows that women's bodies have long been the battleground of a never-ending war for power, control, medical knowledge, and truth. It's time to refute the belief that being a woman is a preexisting condition.
