I contributi pubblicati in questo volume sono stati selezionati dal Comitato Scientifico del Convegno Internazionale Patrimonio architettonico religioso. Nuove funzioni e processi di trasformazione tra quelli inviati da studiosi di varie nazionalità in risposta alla procedura di call for paper attivata in vista del Convegno stesso, organizzato dal Dipartimento Architettura e Design del Politecnico di Torino e dall'Ufficio Nazionale per i beni culturali ecclesiastici della Conferenza Episcopale Italiana (Torino, 11 e 12 dicembre 2014). Il Comitato ha compiuto questa scelta allo scopo di conoscere in termini generali lo stato dell'arte della ricerca rispetto ai temi che il Convegno ha inteso sviluppare in modo organico. L'esito della call ha consentito di verificare sia l'interesse per il tema sia la grande varietà di punti di vista secondo cui il tema del riuso delle chiese viene attualmente affrontato in Italia e in altri Paesi, anche in un'ottica di apertura verso diverse confessioni religiose. I contributi sono stati pubblicati secondo la stessa articolazione del Convegno, nelle seguenti tre parti: La storia e la normativa, La consistenza del patrimonio architettonico religioso e Studi e progetti di restauro, valorizzazione e gestione. CARLA BARTOLOZZI, architetto, professore di Restauro presso il Dipartimento di Architettura e Design del Politecnico di Torino, referente del Corso di Laurea Magistrale in Architettura per il Progetto Sostenibile. Svolge studi su temi di conservazione del patrimonio architettonico, con interesse ai processi progettuali e alle azioni di valorizzazione. Da alcuni anni partecipa attivamente a gruppi di studio sul tema del patrimonio architettonico religioso dismesso. Responsabile scientifico di progetti di ricerca sui temi dei tessuti urbani storici, della pratica della manutenzione, dell'adeguamento liturgico, è autrice di saggi sui temi del restauro e di volumi dedicati alla metodologia progettuale (Progetti ed esperienze di conservazione e restauro, Torino 2008; Castelli canavesani. Temi di restauro e valorizzazione, Roma 2014, a cura con F. Novelli). Ha inoltre progettato e diretto molti interventi di restauro e di rifunzionalizzazione. This book serves to shed some light on several controversial questions about contemporary interventions on religious heritage buildings. In the mid-1960s, a process of renewal of Catholic churches began, which sought to respond to the liturgical modifications implemented during the Vatican II (1962-65). Fifty years later, this process continues to be problematic in buildings with a high heritage or historical value. From an operational point of view, it is stimulating to revisit the most relevant architectures at the international level, those high-impact works that were generated thanks to an open and serene dialogue between principals, architects, users, artists and patrimonial leaders. Thus, it is essential to know the criteria that have supported interventions, whether legal (both ecclesiastical and civil), architectural, artistic, liturgical or pastoral. In this sense, what references could be used at a time like ours? How can we reform what has already been reformed?

Il romanzo inizia con l’incontro casuale e quasi romanzesco dei genitori dell’autore alla vigilia della II guerra mondiale e continua con il loro fidanzamento e matrimonio. Sono narrati momenti della giovinezza del padre, il suo attaccamento alle idee e al sentire del fratello maggiore, per lui Maestro di vita, la sua vis politica durante il ventennio di dittatura fascista e nel frangente di tragedia e di lutto legati alla guerra. Sono anche raccontati momenti della vita dell’autore, visti e narrati dal padre, che è il vero io narrante del romanzo. Non si tratta della solita biografia ma del racconto di stralci emotivamente significativi della vita dei genitori come a lui descritti o da lui vissuti. È frequente che in vecchiaia emergano antichi ricordi, sensazioni e sapori di un tempo trascorso, racconti e storie che la mente fervida di un giovane ha ascoltato, assorbito e poi dimenticato. Ma tutto è archiviato e custodito negli oscuri, spesso inconsci meandri della memoria. Talora a tratti le memorie emergono, scompaiono, riemergono, inseguono le corde dei sentimenti. È dolce allora scrivere qualcosa di esse, come una novella quasi mitica, da trasmettere ai propri cari. Casualità o destino? Nel romanzo è posta anche la problematica se vi sia nell’azione umana una casualità degli eventi o se a spingere ogni cosa sia il destino, la Μο?ρα degli antichi greci, che quasi tremila anni fa colonizzarono la sua Σικελ?α, influenzandone inevitabilmente modi di pensare e di essere, tradizioni, abitudini, usi e costumi.
