The greatness of a nation is less a function of its physical geography than it is of the quality of its human content. Any nation can rise to great heights if it has within its borders men and women who will dare to dream and see a life beyond the limitations of the times in which they live. These are people who know that however dark and bleak the night may be, there’ll be light at the break of dawn, and are willing both to persevere through the long, dark night and to help others do so. These men and women are those the world knows as patriots. In Dreams of a Patriot, Oluneye Oluwole confronts the monstrous subject of leadership crisis in Nigeria, not from the boring and tedious perspective of a political analyst, but from the refreshing, everyday angle of a common citizen who knows that a nation so great and so immensely endowed as Nigeria deserves more from her people. She lights a candle in the wind of our turbulent national experience and beckons on all who share in this dream of greatness to help shield its flickering flame from the extinguishing forces that have held her nation down all these years. In a subtle, unobtrusive way, it is an expression of the dreams and hopes of that pained and distressed patriot in every one of us.

What happened to our nation? The United States of America that the founding fathers created was driven by much different values than those that permeate the government and much of society today. John Mogen, a conservative retiree and true patriot in every sense of the word, can no longer sit back and watch his beloved country slide further and further away from what it was intended to be. Determined to make a positive change, he decides to write a fictional book about restoring the Constitution. However, when he shares his idea with his brother-in-law, Carl, he sets into motion a much larger chain of events than he ever could have imagined. With the help of his loving wife, Jaylynn, and the Arlington Colonels' Club, consisting of four former military leaders, including brother-in-law Carl, John embarks on a quest to form a new republic of red and religious states called the Western Southern Alliance (WSA). Hundreds of allies from coast to coast secretly work together to support John, who has agreed to be the face of the restoration-the civilian militia commander leading the effort. John and Jaylynn know that this endeavor has only three possible outcomes: death, prison, or success. What will come of this bold and audacious plan? Will these patriots achieve their goal-or die trying? Read A Patriot's Dream to learn their fate-and the fate of this great nation called the United States of America!

Jacob Klund, curious about what’s in his deceased grandma’s attic, snoops around. He finds a trunk full of old papers. Jacob’s father, a history teacher, identifies this as a great treasure because of the dates on the papers, diaries, letters, and documents. The family decides to read through them at “sharing times,” after dinner. The trunk cache reveals detailed family history dating back to 1738. While immersed in the trunk’s contents, the Klund family restores grandma’s house and cheers for Liz, Jacob’s sister, at regional and state spelling bees. They watch the civil rights movement on television and worry about the nuclear threat from the Soviets. As the 1960s begin, Allen Klund, Jacob’s dad, perceives subtle changes in America’s worldview and follows closely historic Supreme Court decisions that could affect his future in public education. He shares his concerns with his wife, Harriet, but he continues to teach in the system. Jacob, the novel’s narrator, graduates from law school and joins a firm that handles freedom-of-religion cases. It is a step that his father hesitated to take, and he is proud of his son. Reflecting on the potential effects of Darwinism and Marxism, Jacob concludes the novel with a scathing parable called “The Project.”

The flag of fifty stars fluttered in the afternoon breeze within a dream, a sight that was both dumbfounding and awe-inspiring. When fourteen-year-old Caroline Johnson awoke from the dream in the Autumn of 1777, she became infused with hope, for it was the future she had just seen. Confidence grew within her that the tide of the war would soon turn, and she and her countrymen would win the brutal fight against the British Empire. That assurance, however, was soon tested by bitter loss, unforgiving winters, and cynical, weary soldiers she served with. Hope became thin and brittle, a thread she feared may break.

As disdain grows for the workings of Washington, patriots across the country have gathered in "tea parties," harkening back to the nation’s roots in 1773 when "No taxation without representation" was the motto. Americans again feel overly taxed by rulers who don’t listen, and the tea parties have grown into a movement comprised of deeply concerned Americans who have never previously participated in any demonstration. With this comes a renewed interest in our unique history as a nation, andPatriots Handbookoffers just that. For those interested in actually reading the founding documents and learning about what the Founding Fathers had to say,Patriots Handbookoffers our nation’s founding documents, along with inspiring quotes and excerpts about the glorious history of our great nation.

A sweeping multigenerational novel about idealism, betrayal, and family secrets set in the U.S. and Russia, from one of Granta’s Best of Young American Novelists When the Great Depression hits, Florence Fein leaves Brooklyn College for a job in Moscow—and the promise of love and independence. But once in Russia, she quickly becomes entangled in a country she can’t escape. Many years later, Florence’s son, Julian, immigrates back to the United States, though his work in the oil industry takes him on frequent visits to Moscow. When he learns that Florence’s KGB file has been opened, he arranges a business trip to uncover the truth about his mother, and to convince his son, Lenny—trying to make his fortune in Putin’s cutthroat Russia—to return home. What Julian discovers is both chilling and heartbreaking: an untold story of a generation of Americans abandoned by their country, and the secret history of two rival nations colluding under the cover of enmity. The Patriots is a riveting evocation of the Cold War years, told with brilliant insight and extraordinary skill. Alternating between Florence’s and Julian’s perspectives, it is at once a mother-son story and a tale of two countries bound in a dialectic dance; a love story and a spy story; both a grand, old-fashioned epic and a contemporary novel of ideas. Through the history of one family moving back and forth between continents over three generations, The Patriots is a poignant tale of the power of love, the rewards and risks of friendship, and the secrets parents and children keep from one another. Praise for The Patriots “The Patriots is a historical romance in the old style: multigenerational, multi-narrative, intercontinental, laden with back stories and historical research, moving between scrupulous detail and sweeping panoramas, the first-person voice and a kaleidoscopic third, melodrama and satire, Cleveland in 1933 and Moscow in 2008.”—Nathaniel Rich, The New York Times Book Review “Dazzling and addictive . . . an outstanding family saga.”—The Spectator (U.K.) “Extraordinary . . . The Patriots has the weight of a classic."—Commentary Magazine “I found on every page an observation so acute, a sentence of such truth and shining detail, that it demanded re-reading for the sheer pleasure of it. The Patriots has convinced me that Krasikov belongs among the totemic young writers of her era.”—Khaled Hosseini, author of And the Mountains Echoed and The Kite Runner
