Making A Scientific Case For Conscious Agency And Free Will written by William R. Klemm and has been published by Academic Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-02-11 with Psychology categories.
Making a Scientific Case for Conscious Agency and Free Will makes a series of arguments that certain human behaviors are impossible to explain in the absence of free will, and that free will emerges from materialistic processes of brain function. It outlines future directions for neuroscience studies that can harness emerging technologies and tools for systems-level analysis. All humans have the sensation that they consciously will certain things to happen and that, in the absence of external constraints, they are free to choose from among alternatives. This notion of free will is deemed obvious by the average person based on common experience. Free will is frequently defended with arguments stemming from social, legal, philosophical, and religious perspectives. But these arguments appeal to consequences—not causes—of choices and decisions. In the past 3 decades, debate has raged within the scientific community over whether free will is in fact an illusion. Because free will would require conscious agency, the supporting corollary is that consciousness itself cannot do anything and is merely an observer rather than an actor. - Considers arguments for and against free will from religious, social, legal, and neuroscience perspectives - Provides thorough coverage of the manifold human behaviors that can be explained only by free will, from consciousness to creativity - Outlines future directions for further neuroscience research into the topic

Som, an acronym for Speculations on mind, is a speculative theory of the fundamental physiological structure and operational nature of a mind. After the essential background information and basic premises of Som are given, the theory is progressively developed to attempt to account for the manifestation of subjective feelings, awareness, consciousness, sensory and mental qualia, personness, thought and reasoning processes, memory, imagination, dreams, moods, emotions, and numerous other diverse phenomena within our own personal reality. Som has been additionally provided with a brief addendum titled, Sor, an acronym for Speculations on reality. Sor considers the question of whether or not there might be an existent, underlying, supersensible reality which is possibly causal to the subsistence of our spatiotemporal continuum, and so ourselves. If you choose to travel into and through the imaginary realms of Som and Sor, you will likely realize at the end of your journey that you have gone full circle, and so returned to exactly where you started, within yourself, but then having a new and perhaps unforeseen ability to view your personal reality in a wholly different and surprisingly practical way.

When thirteen-year-old Marcus Chen discovers a mysterious book in his grandmother's basement, he uncovers a truth that will change humanity forever: names aren't just labels—they're living patterns that shape reality itself. As Marcus delves deeper into the science of Name Mechanics, he joins forces with Jennifer Zhang, a brilliant young coder who sees patterns in the digital realm, and other gifted teens who each perceive different aspects of this hidden world. Together, they discover that names create measurable effects in reality, influencing everything from personal destiny to the fabric of the universe itself. But they're not the only ones who know about this power. Corporate interests, led by the enigmatic Quantum Dynamics, seek to control and monetize name mechanics for profit. As Marcus and his friends race to understand their growing abilities, they find themselves at the center of a conflict that will determine humanity's future: will name mechanics become another resource to be exploited, or will it lead to an unprecedented evolution in human consciousness? From decoding the quantum patterns within names to communicating with cosmic civilizations, from healing environmental damage to transforming global economics, "Name Mechanics" takes readers on an extraordinary journey that bridges science and mysticism, technology and consciousness, individual destiny and universal purpose. This groundbreaking novel explores what happens when humanity discovers the true power of names, and how this discovery transforms not just our world, but our understanding of reality itself. It's a story about awakening to the patterns that connect everything, and how this awakening might be the next step in human evolution. Perfect for readers who love thought-provoking science fiction that explores big ideas through personal discovery, "Name Mechanics" offers a unique blend of quantum physics, consciousness exploration, and the age-old mystery of names, all woven into an unforgettable coming-of-age adventure that questions the very nature of reality and human potential.

It was not long ago when the consciousness was not considered a problem for science. However, this has now changed and the problem of consciousness is considered the greatest challenge to science. In the last decade, a great number of books and articles have been published in the field, but very few have focused on the how consciousness evolves and develops, and what characterizes the transitions between different conscious states, in animals and humans. This book addresses these questions. Renowned researchers from different fields of science (including neurobiology, evolutionary biology, ethology, cognitive science, computational neuroscience and philosophy) contribute with their results and theories in this book, making it a unique collection of the state-of-the-art of this young field of consciousness studies. Consciousness has long been a subject of interest in philosophy and religion but only relatively recently has it become subject to scientific investigation. Now, more than ever before, we are beginning to understand this mental state. Developmental psychologists understand when we first develop a sense of self; neuropsychologists see which parts of the brain activate when we think about ourselves and which parts of the brain control that awareness. Cognitive scientists have mapped the circuitry that allows machines to have some form of self awareness, and neuroscientists investigate similar circuitry in the human brain. Research that once was separate inquiries in discreet disciplines is converging. List serves and small conferences focused on consciousness are proliferating. New journals have emerged in this field. A huge number of monographs and edited treatises have recently been published on consciousness, but there is no recognized entry point to the field, no comprehensive summary. This encyclopedia is that reference. Organized alphabetically by topic, coverage encompasses a summary of major research and scientific thought regarding the nature of consciousness, the neural circuitry involved, how the brain, body, and world interact, and our understanding of subjective states. The work includes contributions covering neuroscience, psychology, philosophy, and artificial intelligence to provide a comprehensive backdrop to recent and ongoing investigations into the nature of conscious experience from a philosophical, psychological, and biological perspective.

In "The Leader’s 2nd Training," Mindell introduces tested 2nd Training Inner Work, Bodywork, Relationship, and Large Group methods for personal, group, and world conflicts. Two key ideas are that everyone is needed as a 2nd Training leader to facilitate conflicts worldwide, and that 2nd Trainings are based on a Big TOE (Big Theory Of Everything). 1st Trainings in Leadership should include, at the minimum, diversity awareness, group process skills, business leadership concepts, and conflict methods. Such cognitive trainings, while very much needed, are not enough to help our planet’s worst social and environmental problems. Therefore, this book introduces 2nd Training methods to enable all 1st Trainings to work better. 2nd Trainings help people to become effective leaders by increasing their awareness and ability to FLOW—and be creative and powerful during conflict! 2nd Trainings reduce tension, and thus create solutions and friendships. Thanks to physicist Stephen Hawking and others, the TOE intends to unify the immense spaces of Relativity and tiny spaces of the Quantum world. Mindell now suggests a Big TOE, which includes not only Physics, but also Psychology, Spiritual experience, and Social awareness. Mindell’s 2nd Training methods have been widely tested around the world, with thousands of people and dozens of organizations, including the U.N. and government leaders.

Paradox Of Freedom written by Shiva Rahbaran and has been published by Dalkey Archive Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Biography & Autobiography categories.
As the first book-length study of Nicholas Mosley, "The Paradox of Freedom" combines a discussion of the author's incredible biography with an investigation of his writing, nearly all of which is published by Dalkey Archive Press. The son of Oswald Mosley (the leader of Britain's fascistic Blackshirts), a British Lord, a Christian convert, a war veteran, a voracious reader, and an important thinker, Nicholas Mosley has, this book argues, employed all of these experiences and ideas in novels and memoirs that seek to describe the paradoxical nature of freedom: how can man be free when limiting structures are necessary? Can it be achieved, and how? The answer lies in the books themselves, in the ways telling and re-telling stories allows one to escape the seemingly logical bounderies of life and discover new meanings and possibilities. This is a much-needed companion to the work of one of Britain's most important post-War writers.

They apply all of the resources and insights of modern neuroscience, from the largest computermodels ever constructed to new experiments that detect the changes in brain activity. This pioneering work represents a landmark in our growing understanding of consciousness.
