Paul Personne est aujourd’hui reconnu comme la figure de proue du blues made in France (chanté en français). En 1991, il a reçu le "Bus d’acier", Grand Prix du rock français. En 1992, son album Comme à la maison (paru chez Polydor, avec la collaboration de Jacno, Boris Bergman et Gérard Lanvin) est certifié disque d’or. Soudain très demandé, il enregistre et joue entre autres aux côtés d’Eddy Mitchell (Rio Grande) et de Johnny Hallyday (Toute la musique que j’aime). Une centaine d’interviews, de visionnages de séquences télévisées, de portraits filmés, de performances en concert ont permis de compléter la connaissance d’un artiste aussi pudique qu’attachant pour composer cette biographie, la première qui lui soit véritablement consacrée. À l’heure où l’hystérie marchande n’a jamais autant rythmé, à coups de hits mondialisés et de "chefsd’oeuvre (hebdomadaires) absolus", le culturel et l’artistique, le lecteur fan de blues et de rock, mais aussi de poésie populaire, partagera le postulat hâbleur de cette biographie : "La musique a besoin de Paul Personne".

Every musical form has had an impact on the linguistic practices of our society. French song is a vector of cultural, social, and stylistic values. Throughout the world, songs in the French language are used in the teaching of French: professors incorporate songs into the curriculum in order to illustrate differences of register and linguistic variation, as well as to raise lexical or grammatical questions. As a form of popular expression, song is a genre that has, in recent years, become the focus of serious academic scholarship and criticism. However, few linguists have paid attention to French song and its linguistic uses. This richly illustrated mini-dictionary about French singers fills this gap by offering a collection of portraits of the greatest singers of the French language and how they have constructed the musical landscape in both France and the larger francophone community and the world as a whole.
