In a world that is too often seen as a cloash of civilizations, some believe there is another way, a path that involves engagement, dialogue, and respect. In Thomas Michel's new book, Peace and Dialogue in a Plural Society, he explores how Fethullah Gulen is one of those speaking most vocally in favor of a world community, where different faiths and nations can come together at one table to solve the multitude of problems facing today's world. Exploring the spiritual roots of Gulen and the Hizmet Movement, as well as drawing parallels between his own work as a Catholic priest, Michel shows how Hizmet has helped build a blueprint for intercultural communication in a time when too many voices are trying to stoke the fires of discord. Through education, dialogue, and a respect for basic human dignity, Michel finds a foundation in Gulen's faith and Hizmet's service upon which a healthy, diverse society can be built.

Interreligious Dialogue In Our Pluralistic Age A Perspective Of Nostra Aetate written by Joseph Dozie Udeze Ph. D. and has been published by Xulon Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-06-19 with Education categories.

Against the back-lash of interreligious squabbles in our socio-religiously embittered society; this book blatantly rejects pathology of intolerance among our world religions and proposes pluralistic mindset and mutual collaboration among them. It offers our pluralistic society a witty Interreligious dialogue-pattern which is non-judgmental and yet, a peace-oriented program. It highlights a pluralistic-mindset in our world of stack differences where pathology of intolerance seems to have gripped the moral integrity of the world religious traditions. It argues that despite the myriad of stack differences of human existence; what unites us are still more important than things that disunite or divide us. Consequently, it contends that interreligious dialogue is not about doctrinal or organizational commonalities/uniformity neither is it all about common grounds. It is rather all about co-existence i.e. unity in diversity. The author, therefore, maintains that authentic dialogue implies an interfaith co-operation and collaboration in the realization of natural human ethical values. The book, therefore, advances an interfaith collaboration and co-penetration which targets common good of all. Common good with enriching implications whereby everyone has something to learn, gain and are transformed by the encounter. Consequently, its logic subsists in the fact that humanity is connected to one common citizenry and so common good of all must be given priority for an authentic coexistence to materialize. The novelty of this book lies in its emphasis on a pluralistic mind-set which expresses acceptance of the "other" without controlling, manipulating or defining him with our own standards and values. It proposes a dialogue of communications rather than mere acceptance of the other. It recommends peaceful-synchronicity, a "life together among religions, a "relationship that recycles peace" and aims at creating a community of communities. It therefore, projects inimitable proposals of Nostra Aetate, especially as it recommends respect and pluralistic mind-set among religions and cultures of the world. ABOUT THE AUTHOR The author of this book, Rev. Fr, Joseph Dozie Udeze (Ph.D.) is a systematic theologian with many years of tutoring experience on sociology of religion and systematic theology. He holds a B.A.(Philosophy), B.A.(Theology), M.A. (Comparative Religion), M.A.(Theology) and Ph.D. Systematic Theology. He attended University of Calabar Nigeria, Duquesne University Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and Seton Hall University South Orange New Jersey U.S.A.

At a time when the world is becoming increasingly interdependent, multi-cultural and multi-religious, the concept of religious pluralism is under assault as a result of hatred, prejudice and misunderstanding from both religious exclusivists and dogmatic secularists. In this important and timely book, twenty internationally acclaimed scholars and leading religious thinkers respond to contemporary challenges in different ways. Some discuss the idea of a dialogue of civilisations; others explore the interfaith principles and ethical resources of their own spiritual traditions. All of them reject the notion that any single religion can claim a monopoly of wisdom; all are committed to the ideal of a just and peaceful society in which people of different religions and cultures can happily coexist. More space is here given to Islam than to Judaism and Christianity because, as a result of negative stereotypes, it is the most misunderstood of the major world religions. HRH Prince Hassan bin Talal of Jordan contributes the Foreword.

In the emerging fields of religious and interreligious peacebuilding, the question of monitoring and evaluation is a challenging, yet necessary process. The need to develop comprehensive yet fitting evaluation models for religious and interreligious peacebuilding is not only important for donor interests, but also critical as a means of documenting and learning for peacebuilders themselves. Theories and best practices in monitoring and evaluation have become prevalent in many fields, yet the amount of literature on evaluating intercultural and, especially, religious and interreligious projects remains scant in comparison. This volume offers a unique contribution that not only looks at several of the challenges and implications faced by religious and interreligious peacebuilders but also provides concrete examples of new models and tools for monitoring and evaluating religious and interreligious peacebuilding projects. In doing so, this volume serves as a tool and point of reference for individuals and organizations developing and implementing interreligious dialogue and peacebuilding projects.

This volume explores how religious leaders can contribute to cultures of peace around the world. The essays are written by leading and emerging scholars and practitioners who have lived, taught, or worked in the areas of conflict about which they write. Connecting the theory and practice of religious peacebuilding to illuminate key challenges facing interreligious dialogue and interreligious peace work, the volume is explicitly interreligious, intercultural, and global in perspective. The chapters approach religion and peace from the vantage point of security studies, sociology, ethics, ecology, theology, and philosophy. A foreword by David Smock, the Vice President of Governance, Law and Society and Director of the Religion and Peacebuilding Center at the United States Institute of Peace, outlines the current state of the field.

As the Christian, Muslim, and Jewish contributors to this volume have discovered firsthand, religion is better at fostering peace than at fueling war. Rarely, conclude the authors, is religion the principal cause of international conflict, even though some adversaries may argue differently. But religion can often be invaluable in promoting understanding and reconciliation-and the need to exploit that potential has never been greater. Drawing on their extensive experience in organizing interaction and cooperation across religious boundaries in the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia, Northern Ireland, and the Balkans, the contributors explore the formidable potential of interfaith dialogue. The first part of the volume analyzes the concept and its varied application; the second focuses on its practice in specific zones of conflict; and the third assesses the experiences and approaches of particular organizations. When organized creatively, interfaith dialogue can nurture deep engagement at all levels of the religious hierarchy, including the community level. It draws strength from the peacemaking traditions shared by many faiths and from the power of religious ritual and symbolism. Yet, as the authors also make plain, it also has its limitations and carries great risks.
