You've probably heard of the Parable of the Good Samaritan, but have you heard of the parables of The Persistent Widow, The Ungrateful Slave, The Shrewd Manager or The Ten Virgins? This book examines every one of Jesus' parables from the greatest to the smallest and clearly explains the meaning of these wonderful stories Jesus told. Jesus's parables are about subjects as diverse as camels and coins, wineskins and weeds, and pearls and pig fodder. They tell of judges and widows, fathers and sons, and kings and slaves. They speak of wedding feasts and grand dinners. They explain truths about God's great love for mankind and how people should treat each other with love and compassion. The parables also explain why Jesus of Nazareth was crucified and how all of us can enjoy eternal life in the kingdom of heaven. They show us the path to experiencing lives that are full of joy, peace, hope, and love. Above all, the parables reveal to us the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven and provide the answer to the perplexity of our existence. Invite the Lord into the beautiful mess of your life and grow in your love for Him as you examine the Pearls and Pig Fodder .

The Heart Of The Pearl Shell written by James F. Weiner and has been published by Univ of California Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-11-10 with Social Science categories.

For the Foi people who live on the edge of the central highlands of Papua New Guinea, the flow of pearl shells is the "heart" of their social life. The pearl shell is the exchange item that mediates the creation of their most important sexual and social roles. The Heart of the Pearl Shell analyzes a number of myths of the Foi people, elegantly bringing together significant ethnographic materials in a way that has important implications for the development of social theory in anthropology and in Melanesian studies. Scholars of semiotic-symbolic anthropology and of comparative religion will also share the author's interest in the meaning and role of mythology in Foi culture. Instead of relying on orthodox methods of Freudian or structuralist interpretation, James Weiner assumes there is a dialectical relationship between the images of Foi myth and the images of the Foi's social world. He demonstrates how each set of these images is dependent upon the other for its creation. This innovative study locates Foi social meaning in the re-creation and attempted solution of the moral dilemmas that are crystallized in mythology and other poetic usages. This title is part of UC Press's Voices Revived program, which commemorates University of California Press’s mission to seek out and cultivate the brightest minds and give them voice, reach, and impact. The Gospel Of Matthew written by John Nolland and has been published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-11-01 with Religion categories.

Having devoted the past ten years of his life to research for this major new work, John Nolland gives us a commentary on the Gospel of Matthew that engages with a notable range of Matthean scholarship and offers fresh interpretations of the dominant Gospel in the history of the church. Without neglecting the Gospel's sources or historical background, Nolland places his central focus on the content and method of Matthew's story. His work explores Matthew's narrative technique and the inner logic of the unfolding text, giving full weight to the Jewish character of the book and its differences from Mark's presentation of parallel material. While finding it unlikely that the apostle Matthew himself composed the book, Nolland does argue that Matthew's Gospel reflects the historical ministry of Jesus with considerable accuracy, and he brings to the table new evidence for an early date of composition. Including accurate translations based on the latest Greek text, detailed verse-by-verse comments, thorough bibliographies for each section, and an array of insightful critical approaches, Nolland's Gospel of Matthew will stimulate students, preachers, and scholars seeking to understand more fully Matthew's presentation of the gospel narrative.
