I have no doubt that many of you who read this book will be captivated by it, just as I have been captivated. This book is woven through evocative stories told by masterful educators who came together to explore the meanings of learning, teaching, and life. For those who have read Speaking of Teaching, it is not a surprise to hear, again, the profoundly touching, humane, and imaginative voices of these authors. This book draws me in, touches my heart, and refreshes my mind. —Hongyu Wang, Professor, Oklahoma State University, Tulsa, OK, US The authors invite us to join them in asking, “What else can learning be?” What else indeed? What is beyond the recipes, rubrics, formulas, and credentials of contemporary education? Deep in the heart of their own personal stories, told and untold, spoken and unspoken, the authors search and tell. With an artful admixture of stories, poems, artwork, and reflections, this book is a rare opportunity to listen in on an eight-year extended conversation amongst these gifted educators as they become increasingly present in their learning journeys. —Arden Henley, Professor and Principal, Canadian Programs, City University of Seattle, Vancouver, BC, Canada

Seminar paper from the year 2006 in the subject English - Pedagogy, Didactics, Literature Studies, grade: 2,3, University of Kassel, course: Introduction to English as a Foreign Language (EFL) Teaching Methodology, language: English, abstract: Since we are studying to become future teachers of English, it is really important to teach the "so-called ́four skills`- listening, speaking, reading and writing" (Brumfit, 1984, p.103). This term paper will only deal with two of the four skills, which are listening and speaking. Both of these skills need to be learned and require active behaviour. This term paper starts off by introducing the reader to the topic of teaching listening, continues by explaining the characteristics of listening situations, learner problems with listening and different listening activities which can be used at school. Furthermore, it gives a definition of speaking, how to teach speaking at school, some important speaking methods and learner problems. The next topic is the oral presentation itself and what we did in class, which tasks we gave to the other students, which aims we wanted to achieve and how everything worked out. In the final conclusion we want to show what we learned while we prepared our presentation and actually presented it in class. Some problems that occurred in class and how we could have improved the organisation of the presentation and the get involved part will be mentioned as well. We finish our paper with the attachment and the bibliography.

Seminar paper from the year 2014 in the subject Didactics for the subject English - Pedagogy, Literature Studies, grade: 2,3, University of Koblenz-Landau (Institut für Anglistik und Romanistik), course: Teaching and Learning English at Primary Level, language: English, abstract: As in many other countries English is an important lingua franca in Germany. Before 2001, it was only learned from class five or in some states from class three. Since 2001, English or another foreign language is an obligatory subject in the primary school from class one to four. The ability to communicate in a foreign language should be supported. Speaking skills are necessary for achieving this goal. As a consequence, speaking tasks should occupy an important place in everyday school live. The "Unterrichtsorganisation Grundschule" allocates teaching time to all subjects and the foreign language acquisition got the fewest time of all primary school subjects. This term paper elaborates this problem and gives a brief overview about possibilities on how a teacher could handle this situation.

Speaking Of Teaching written by Avraham Cohen and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-23 with Education categories.

Teaching is a richly multifaceted endeavor. It isn’t always easy to know just where we should focus our thinking and our dialogue. In Speaking of Teaching, six educators talk about their inner selves. They bring the inside out for their own self-exploration. And they bring the inside out for us to view and learn from. They also question the boundaries between the inner and the outer and whether existence can be dichotomized in this way. Gary Poole, Professor, Faculty of Medicine, The University of British Columbia, 3M Teaching Fellow. The authors of this collection explore the many ways to remain present in the midst of the trifling but perpetual swirl of events, thoughts, distractions, and how they, as they are at, what T. S. Eliot called, the still point of the turning world, find profound meaning in their work as educators. A deeply moving collection that allowed me too, while reading it, to rediscover that still point without which there would be no dance, and there is only the dance. Gerda Wever, PhD, editor and publisher, The Write Room Press

Speaking English As A Second Language written by Alireza Jamshidnejad and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-11-09 with Education categories.

This book focuses on understanding the process of problem construction in oral communication in foreign language contexts, examining how speakers of English as a second language approach issues in oral communication, as well as the strategies they employ to overcome these difficulties. Using theories of general communication, and in particular current approaches to L2 oral communication and strategies in interactional discourse, the authors construct a theoretical framework for defining, identifying and classifying learners’ problems and coping strategies when speaking English as a second or foreign language. The book offers a coherent process-oriented description of the complex and multidimensional nature and typology of oral interaction problems in EFL contexts, and it will be of interest to practitioners, teachers, researchers, students, and curriculum designers in Applied Linguistics and TESOL.

Dialogic Pedagogy written by David Skidmore and has been published by Multilingual Matters this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-08-18 with Education categories.

This book provides a wide-ranging and in-depth theoretical perspective on dialogue in teaching. It explores the philosophy of dialogism as a social theory of language and explains its importance in teaching and learning. Departing from the more traditional teacher-led mode of teacher–student communication, the dialogic approach is more egalitarian and focuses on the discourse exchange between the parties. Authors explore connections between dialogic pedagogy and sociocultural learning theory, and argue that dialogic interaction between teacher and learners is vital if instruction is to lead to cognitive development. The book also presents prosody as a critical resource for understanding between teachers and students, and includes some of the first empirical studies of speech prosody in classroom discourse.
