In recent years, social innovation has experienced a steep career. Numerous national governments and large organisations like the OECD, the European Commission and UNESCO have adopted the term. Social innovation basically means that people adopt new social practices in order to meet social needs in a different or more effective way. Prominent examples of the past are the Red Cross and the social welfare state or, at present, the internet 2.0 transforming our communication and cooperation schemes, requiring new management concepts, even empowering social revolutions. The traditional concept of innovation as successful new technological products needs fundamental rethinking in a society marked by knowledge and services, leading to a new and enriched paradigm of innovation. There is multiple evidence that social innovation will become of growing importance not only concerning social integration, equal opportunities and dealing with the greenhouse effects but also with regard to preserving and expanding the innovative capacity of companies and societies. While political authorities stress the social facets of social innovation, this book also encompasses its societal and systemic dimensions, collecting the scientific expertise of renowned experts and scholars from all over the world. Based on the contributions of the first world-wide science convention on social innovation from September 2011 in Vienna, the book provides an overview of scientific approaches to this still relatively new field. In den 1970er Jahren entsteht in der katholischen Gemeinde einer westdeutschen Kleinstadt die Jugendinitiative "Club75". Wie kam es dazu? Anhand von Gesprächen zwischen damaligen Mitgliedern untersucht Kathrin Witek, angelehnt an die Methode der Kollektiven Erinnerungsarbeit, das ›urwüchsige‹, nicht formalisierte Zusammentreffen der beteiligten Menschen, die in dieser soziokulturellen Initiative aktiv wurden und dabei sich und die Institution bildeten. Ausgehend insbesondere von Michael Polanyis "Implizitem Wissen" betrachtet die Autorin, wie sich Bildungsprozesse als Wechselspiel von Theorie und Empirie gestalten und wie die Beteiligten diese lebensgeschichtlich bearbeiten. Dabei deckt sie die Prozesshaftigkeit von Bildung als stets subjektive Erfahrungsproduktion auf, die sich in der heutigen Forschungssituation für die damaligen Club-Mitglieder erneut aktualisiert und eine kollektive Dimension deutlich werden lässt. Witeks Studie wird so zum Plädoyer dafür, die Personen- und Situationsgebundenheit von Bildungsprozessen auch in Forschungsprozessen immer mitzudenken und zu erspüren.

Umfassende Ansätze zum Qualitätsmanagement und, damit einhergehend, zertifizierte Qualitätsmanagementsysteme (QM-Systeme) werden immer bedeutsamer um im globalen Wettbewerb erfolgreich zu bestehen. Trotz einer steigenden Anzahl von Zertifizierungen bleiben die intendierten positiven Effekte der QM-Systeme meist hinter den Erwartungen der Unternehmen zurück. Die Systeme erzielen nicht ihre gewünschten Effekte zur Verbesserung der Produkte, Dienstleistungen und Prozesse. Diese Tatsache gründet oftmals darin, dass die QM-Systeme nur formal implementiert und genutzt werden - im Extremfall evtl. nur der Aufrechterhaltung der Zertifizierung dienen. Hierbei wird meist vernachlässigt, dass es sich bei QM-Systemen um soziotechnische Systeme handelt, deren Funktion vom Zusammenspiel von Mensch und prozessualen Strukturen abhängt. Sie definieren die Rahmenbedingungen für den Arbeitsalltag der Mitarbeiter und stellen so organisatorische Strukturen für alle im Unternehmen arbeitenden Menschen bereit. Die Funktionsweise und der Nutzen von QM-Systemen entwickelt sich deshalb meist nur soweit, wie die Systeme aktiv und motiviert durch die Mitarbeiter eines Unternehmens gelebt und ausgestaltet werden. Die Arbeit verortet sich in einem interdisziplinären Feld zwischen Organisationspsychologie und Ingenieurwissenschaften mit einem starken Fokus auf die unternehmerische Praxis in kleinen und mittleren Unternehmen. Sie stellt eine Methodik zur Verfügung, mit der es möglich ist, bestehende QM-Systeme hinsichtlich ihrer motivationsrelevanten Ausgestaltung zu bewerten und konkrete Verbesserungspotentiale zur Integration motivationspsychologischer Erkenntnisse in die Systeme abzuleiten - ohne die Systemkomplexität zu erhöhen oder die Zertifizierbarkeit zu erschweren.
