Di awal tahun 2016 Lesbian, Gay, Bisekual dan Transgender (LGBT) kembali mencuat dikampanyekan di Indonesia semenjak artis kondang Indra Bekti dan Syaiful Jamil tertuduh melakukan kekerasan seksual sesama jenis. Tampilnya kaum LGBT, yang semula lebih dikesankan sebagai bentuk aktivitas seksual secara tertutup dan rahasia kini dipopulerkan di Indonesia. Ketertutupan perilaku seksual tersebut disebabkan kaum LGBT ditengah masyarakat masih dianggap minoritas dan kerap kali memperoleh perlakuan diskriminatif baik dalam lingkungan keluarga, agama, masyarakat serta berbagai sudut kehidupan lainnya. Sikap diskriminatif ini diterima dengan berbagai bentuk pelecehan, cemoohan, penghinaan, bahkan kekerasan dari lingkungan sekitarnya baik kekerasan yang bersifat fisik dan mental sebagai akibat mereka menjalani hidup penuh dengan perbedaan khususnya orientasi seksual yang tidak sesuai fitrah manusia pada umumnya. Stigma negatif terhadap LGBT, selanjutnya disebut Same-Seks Atraction (SSA) pada akhirnya mendorong sebagian besar dari mereka cenderung menutupi orientasi seksualnya. Seperti pada kasus seorang pria SSA yang menikahi seorang perempuan tunarungu atau tunanetra semata-mata hanya untuk menutupi orientasi seksual dirinya. Semua itu dilakukan agar tetap memperoleh status terhormat dalam kehidupan masyarakat. Namun pada akhirnya pria tersebut tetap berhubungan dengan kekasih prianya dan melakukan banyak kekerasan psikologis pada istrinya yang cacat fisik tersebut. Secara akumulatif kaum SSA dalam setiap tahunnya semakin bertambah banyak. Berdasarkan hasil survey Kementerian Kesehatan di 13 kota di Indonesia yang dilakukan semenjak tahun 2009 hingga 2013, tercatat pria yang bercinta dengan sesama jenis meningkat drastis yakni dari 7% menjadi 12,8%. Sehingga dari data tersebut kaum SSA mengalami kenaikan secara total sejumlah 83%. Dalam survei tersebut, jumlah laki-laki yang melakukan seks dengan laki-laki juga meningkat dari 5,3 % menjadi 12,4 % atau sekitar 134 persen.[4] Seiring dengan peningkatan jumlah kaum SSA serta komunitas yang menaunginya menjadikan kaum SSA semenjak level usia pelajar SMP, SMA, mahasiswa hingga kaum dewasa berani tampil secara percaya diri diberbagai media informasi. Tampilnya komunitas ini bukan sekedar menunjukan jati diri dan orientasi seks yang berbeda dengan manusia pada umumnya secara utuh. Namun tampilnya kaum SSA di tanah air secara menyeluruh ingin memperoleh kesamaan hak sebagai warga negara sekaligus menuntut pemerintah untuk mengakui sekaligus melegalkan perkawinan sesama jenis. Tuntutan tersebut disebabkan anggapan mereka bahwa orientasi seks yang berbeda menjadi bagian dari hak asasi manusia (HAM) dan tercatat lebih dari 20 negara di dunia telah mengesahkan pernikahan sejenis ini. Bahkan di negeri Paman Sam tepatnya 4 Juli 2015 menjadi perayaan kemerdekaan dan kemenangan bagi kaum SSA atas disyahkannya pernikahan sejenis. Pasalnya, 26 Juni sebelumnya Supreme Court Amerika Serikat memutuskan bahwa perkawinan sejenis telah disyahkan oleh konstitusi Amerika sebagaimana disampaikan Hakim Agung Kennedy: they ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law, the constitution grants them that rights. Lahirnya pengesahan tersebut tentunya disambut gembira ria oleh ribuan kaum SSA.
